Not my typical genre, but I though maybe with the occasional references to the spiritual, supernatural aspects, I’d find diversionary entertainment in this particular novel.
I do tend to enjoy some mysteries, and this one had quite a bit to be solved. I’ve read Penner’s work before, and knew her to be quite accomplished and proficient at spinning a decent plot, keeping the reader enticed, and leaving nothing uncovered by the end. She did not disappoint to deliver exactly so in this one!
I do tend to stay away from novels not written in the current time period, but this was soundly consummated, it never had any bearing on my appreciation of the storyline or negativity in finishing off this gem.
Highly recommend for fans of Penner, the mysterious, and strong female protagonists!
I also greatly savoured her additional, informative sections added in at the end.

The story became predictable, somewhat repetitive and I found myself quickly skim reading the last few pages. There were definitely great parts of this book but I would recommend Penner's "The Lost Apothecary" more.
