About the Author
Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.
Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.
Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.
Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction

Losing Control is the story of two best friends/boss-employee, Jake Knight, the CEO of Knight Securities and Kimberly Rawlings, Kim a Security expert and aspiring gun-slinging Bodyguard.
Four years after the break-up of a loveless and abusive marriage Kim had finally come into her own and she is ready to take on a lover. Jake who has had a secret crush on her for all these years volunteers. But Kim is not easily convinced. Losing Control is very much the journey of just that; Letting go of one's past and giving up control of the present. It follows Jake in his relentless pursuit and very sexy seduction of Kim, with her fighting him every step of the way.
Hero: Jake Knight/31 years/CEO Knight Securities/heir/black hair/navy eyes/6'3".
Five words to describe Jake Knight: Charming, noble, patient, determined and loyal.
"I like carrying you. It gives me the illusion that you'll let me take care of you."
Heroine: Kimberly Rawlings, Kim/23 years/Security expert Knight Securities/dark brown hair/amber eyes/5'9".
Kimberly Rawlings, Kim kept the story going by being mostly wishy-washy, naïve and stubborn. She has some redeeming qualities that will unfold with her painful past. Bottom line: she is who Jake wanted.
"So you're saying if I have enough sex, then I'll get to the point where I'll never want to see another p~ nis again?"
Story moved along at a pleasant pace... Scorching sex scenes! A captivating hero! Overall a quick, feel-good read!
"Christ, she was the most difficult woman he had ever tried to seduce. And the only one who really mattered."

Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Maybe later.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.
I loved his insecurities and his interactions with the secondary characters. Jake is an incredible romantic. I also liked the fact that he didn't act like a man ho in the four years he was biding his time. Gotta say, though, four years sounded about two years too long.
My issue is with Kim. In the four years that Jake has been waiting for her to heal and mature, she never ONCE picks up on the fact that he is totally in love with her. When she finally clues in, she is so afraid to trust him not to take control of her that she keeps backing off in spite of the fact that he has proven over and over that this is not his intention. In fact, he goes out of his way to help her to be stronger emotionally and physically. It would have been nice to see her confidence grow with all the training she did instead of the epiphany at the end.
I appreciated that although this is Book 1 of a trilogy, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone with no cliff hanger. While some reviewers complained about the lack of action in the novel, I was happy that no one had to be shot or kidnapped in order to reach the HEA. I was stunned by the gun incident, however and wished that hadn't been included.
Don't let Kim scare you off. This is a sweet, funny, sexy story and Jake is absolutely yummy.
The only character I came close to liking was Jake Knight; he at least held some depth, even if he had questionable methods. Kimberly was another thing altogether; she was the furthest thing from likable that you could get.
The storyline also fell short, coming across as juvenile at best, the situations too contrived, and no real chemistry between the characters.
I won't go into Kim's past abusive relationship.
On a positive note: i really liked the boss, and i managed to read until the end, so that's a plus

Jake Knight, ex-military running a security business, is wealthy gorgeous and determined. Kimberly Rawlings is a stubborn and argumentative lady and having escaped an abusive marriage four years previously she keeps her emotions guarded. He's kept her close, supporting her professionally and personally in leaving the naïve young woman behind and regaining control of her life, but she now has an itch and is ready to start her mission to find herself a no-strings fling. Easier said than done when Jake is determined to be the only man that scratches it...permanently.
I loved them both and Jake was a perfect blend of patient, kind, bossy and protective. Hot and sexy moments are balanced with those that are fun and touching and I know I will never look up at a Scottish castle again without a wicked gleam in my eye.
I would definitely recommend.
Two people who have become really good friends since Kim's divorce become even closer when Jake finally finds that he wants Kim as more. Kim however has is completely clueless until she tells him that she wants to use the new guy to scratch her sudden sex itch.
Jake who has that alpha possessive streak lets her know that in no uncertain terms that if thats what she wants she will have to come to him, and even gives her a sample of said terms on his office desk.
Kim has her issues and Jake is there for her the entire way. Both are strong characters and the chemistry is explosive with them. I like a number of the other characters in the book and I believe that they too could have great stories to tell.
I fun light read that goes before you know it.
This book is the first & is the story of Jake & Kim which starts out as a story of unrequited love. The difference here is it's Jake who is the one that is waiting for the right time to approach Kim.
The characters are good & as usual this book is written with flashes of Nina's great sense of humour. Kim starts out quite weak but develops into a much stronger person & Nina writes strong women so well.
Loved it & couldn't wait to start the second book in this series.
