Opening a law firm isn't at all what I thought it would be. The landlord is arrogant and irritating. Despite his sexy voice and smooth demeanor, I want to fight him at every turn. Everything with him is a battle--a battle I intend to win. After all, I'm an attorney who never backs down. But when he needs my help, I can't possibly refuse. Who could? Thrown into a role he knows nothing about can't be easy.
Beneath his gruff nature is a broken man who needs to be put back together. The last thing I will ever do is let someone destroy him more.
A cheating fiancée and a backstabbing best friend are not the worst of my problems. When my brother dies, I'm thrust into the life of a single parent. In over my head, I'm forced to seek help from the lawyer who fights me every chance she can. Avery Arrington is a smart-mouthed, feisty woman, who can win my case. Powerful, intelligent, and sexy, I want her in ways I've sworn off for good.
But right now, it's all about my nephew. He's my top priority--the only thing that matters. Now, I have to put all of my faith and hope in Avery to save me—save us. I rarely trust anyone. But the truth is, without Avery, I'd be lost.

steamy, emotional, intense romance that hooked it's claws into me deep, fast, hard and after the very last word, well, I still felt everything that they gave me. "Their chemistry was off the charts and their push and pull connection made for plenty of sizzle. I was completely taken with their story and I mean, who can resist and a slightly grumpy hero with a cute nephew? Not this book hoe! I loved every page from the first to the last. This is definitely a must read! 5 stars." -Adriadna, Goodreads Reviewer

I loved Griffin. My heart broke for him because he's not only dealing with the betrayal of his best friend and ex-fiance, but he has to deal with the loss of his brother. He's then put in the position to take care of his nephew, Declan, which he isn't prepared for.
Avery annoyed me a lot, unfortunately. I loved Avery the attorney. She is smart and caring. But when she starting having feelings for Griffin, the self-doubt was really too much. I get she had an interesting/rough upbringing with her parents, but I just didn't get why this smart, educated person felt like she couldn't love anyone or anything. Maybe it was because this went for literally 90% of the book. It was too much. I wish she would've gotten over her issues way earlier. It would've made the book better from her aspect.
But my biggest gripe is something much bigger. She's an idiot with two brain cells, maybe. Sheldon Cooper knew what love was. My background is similar to Avery's. Addict and Martyr for parents, never enough and always reminded I'd never would be. Teased from the age of six on. An easy dirty little secret or at least that was the thought of a ton of guys.
And you know what. I knew what love was cause I'm not a blithering moron. Self awareness would have saved this book just a little bit. Cause the thing about traumatized people, we are aware that we deliberately self sabotage.
We identify patterns and strive to correct them. And believe me there are people that have been through a lot worse mess than the crap I had to wade through. But you have to dig your way out of the muck and the mire to bask in the sun.
You can't be free until you get out. And sometimes even after you've dealt with everything a sink hole will try to swallow you again.
Self awareness in the form of I think I need therapy. Self analysis in the form of this is a toxic pattern that I'm continually falling into. Making others aware of said pattern so they can help you spot and correct the behavior. Avery needs this desperately. She will only allow relationships to go so deep. So she needs to understand that she withdraws and substitutes superficial level service for actual connection. Instead of being friends with Hannah and D she volunteers to do work and feels like a failure when one of them undertakes a project without her. She feels that she is only their friend because she is valuable to them. They don't actually like her, they tolerate her because she contributes. And they actually like her, but she can't see it. It's her first instinct with Griffin, he's hurting so let me do all this extra work for him. Instead of showing him actual compassion and making myself vulnerable.
She needs help not a magic relationship that "fixes" her.
LOVED Griffin, what a great guy, he had it all and then some. Taking custody of his 8 year old nephew and then doing such a great job to do what is best for the child. Melted my heart. How could anyone resist?
Avery an attorney with a lot of personal issues from being raised by absent parents who never gave her time or acceptance it is no wonder she started life on the wrong foot. And then a jerk for a boyfriend that threw her under the bus at the first hint of trouble. She was probably not his first student! Seems those professors just prey on young women and then drop them as soon as they age! So it is no wonder she had so many issues. But for a smart girl she really needed to work on them. However, I liked her character and it was lucky she had such good girl friends and a man that wanted her regardless!!
It is a good read. I figured Erin would buy out! Her kind usually does. I really enjoyed the story and really wish Erin had come to a much bitter end!!! Like having a judge throw it out with no chance of coming back or getting any money. Would have been a much happier ending. I hate seeing the bad people get away with things! But, regardless, it was a great story and I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/26/2021.

More discord and misassumption from the get go
But it got turned around eventually with positive assertion
Tech billionaire Griffin Locke has come to the Annapolis area to settle, after his brother died, leaving Griffin as guardian to his nephew. Having been betrayed by his fiancee and business partner, he is going to concentrate on giving Declan a good life.
Avery Arrington is managing attorney at her new law offices. The only communications she has had with her landlord Griffin Locke, has been arguments by phone and email about their lease arrangements, so it is an interesting moment when Griffin arrives at her office for advice.
The attraction between them is strong, but Griffin will have a lot to contend with if he ever wants to pursue this skittish beauty.
