She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels.     Sheila McGraw was born in Toronto and began her career as an illustrator and copywriter for retail fashion outlets and editorial publications. In 1986 she was approached by Firefly Books to illustrate "Love You Forever" written by Robert Munsch. As that book achieved success she wrote and/or illustrated several craft and children's books. McGraw's "Papier-Mache for Kids" was awarded the prestigious Benjamin Franklin Award. Her artwork has been widely exhibited and represented by the Loch Galleries in Canada.

My gerontology professor in graduate school read Love You Forever to our class one evening. My tears started to flow. Listening to this charming and lovely story was a very emotional experience. A memorable experience that remains with me. This morning, a friend on social media asked for assistance in recommending favorite books for children. Immediately my thoughts went to Love You Forever. The truth is, this book is highly recommended reading for babies, young children, tweens, teens and adults of all ages. It is one of the most beautiful, sentimental, and empathetic written books of all time.

I discovered myself and my mother in each word. It was as though the author knew my personal story. It's a universal story, reaching across all cultures, ethnicities, ages and genders.

A mother held her new baby and v
very slowly rocked him back and forth,
And while she held him, she sang:

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
my baby you'll be.

On the last day of class my gerontology professor gave each student a copy of Love You Ever. It has a cherished place in my home library.

The great news is Love You Forever can be purchased on Amazon.

This book is grossly unsettling. I started off reading it outloud to my daughter and had to stop once I got to the third page. The book gave me chills as if I was reading a curse outloud! Please pray for discernment parents, just because over 14 thousand ppl purchased this book DOES NOT MAKE IT A GOOD BOOK. The illustrations are so off to me. The mother creeps into the baby's room and stares at him wide eyed and does so again and again in every page. In one page it was 1:30 am and she just watched him sleep!!.... then we learn that the son uses bad words and drives his mom crazy but she loves him anyway, which is nice but its beginning to feel less and less age appropriate. The mother creeping into her older sons bedroom with a ladder nightly was ghastly... and when the son does the same to her we see i giant size framed picture of him as an infant in nothing but a diaper over her bed.
