Low Rez Kindle Edition
Patty "SloMo" Tilgard is always hungry, always afraid of the threat of starvation. She gives everything to her family and Nation, can she give enough for Angie "LowRez" to love her back?
The Transition. A series of stories set in the future, after the sea level rose and the ice returned. A world population fast approaching 80 billion, driven by politics and fear and a very forced level of deliberate politeness.
The Transition. A future Supreme Court ruling giving Native Americans back their land. All of it. Just not the ability to claim it. And old Japanese families offering to buy a person's rights in exchange for cash and a one way ticket to a colony planet.
The Transition. An attitude of waiting for the other shoe to drop after you threw the first one. "We're Still Here!" is the battle cry of desperate Nations as young people sell out and move away and slowly the people are lost to a new colonialism.

So, the whole global warming thing went straight to worst-case scenario, and fast. The good news: mankind has found a way to evacuate from Earth to thousands of other planets which are probably reasonably inhabitable. The bad news: for various reasons, not everybody has that option. And even those who do are not sure they want to take it.
For those still hanging around on Terra, things are grim and slowly getting worse all the time. These two tales are well-written, and the characters are definitely interesting enough to follow around as they do what the must to survive. Although I wouldn't choose any of them for my friends here and now.
If you're put off by cussing, be advised that this book has a considerable amount of it. No sex scenes. A few gruesome deaths are described by the characters, but all of that action is in the past.
The author has a web comic about the zombie apocalypse, told mostly from the point of view of the military and civilian government agencies trying to deal with it. (Google Tales from the Zombie Apocalypse - Life goes on in the Quarantine Zone)
Yes, there is a reason why this e-book of two science fiction stories has a hummingbird on the cover. Read it and find out!
