Lowcountry Bombshell was such fun for me to write! It tells the story of my tech-savvy, Sig-toting, Kate-Spade-loving, Southern Private Investigator, Liz Talbot's, next case. I see Liz's continuing story as traditional PI mysteries, but also as contemporary romance novels, with the romance storyline playing out over the course of the series. While Lowcountry Bombshell contains many cozy elements--small town setting, family interaction, humor, etc.--it also contains elements one might not typically expect to find in cozy mysteries. Y'all, there is sex between consenting adults in this book. While these scenes are not what I personally would consider explicit, some readers may find them so. The very last thing I would ever want to do is offend a reader. So, I thought I should mention that Liz's love life plays a bigger role in this book than it did in Lowcountry Boil, the first book in the series.

Low Country Fun...

When vacationing near Charleston, SC, I always try to read a book that takes place in the South Carolina low country. Lowcountry Bombshell by Susan B. Moyer is the second novel in her Liz Talbot mystery series. I thought that Lowcountry Bombshell would be a light read (think Janet Evanovich) but I was pleasantly surprised to discover a novel with a well-developed plot, fleshed-out characters and good writing. There was also a lot of fun to be had.

Liz Talbot is a private investigator who lives on the island of Stella Maris, near Charleston, SC. Taylor is hired by Calista McQueen, a beautiful woman who is a dead-ringer for the bombshell actress, Marilyn Monroe. Her life has paralleled the famous actress in so many ways that it is uncanny. McQueen is now getting threats and believes that someone is going to kill her on the anniversary of Monroe’s death—less than a week away. At first, most people think that McQueen is exaggerating including Blake Talbot, Liz’s police chief-brother. But then Liz’s life is threatened as well and things are looking more serious. And as if Liz doesn’t have enough on her plate, she is dealing with complications in her love life. Her current boyfriend/ partner does not want to relocate to Stella Maris, and her former boyfriend is actively pursuing her. It makes for some tense moments.

Lowcountry Bombshell was an enjoyable read for a vacation. Ok—McQueen’s family was a little over the top. And you have to buy into the fact that Liz’s dead friend from her teenage-years has reappeared and become her “guardian spirit.” Also, I could have done without the very detailed sex scenes. Still, I am hooked on this series and immediately started book one, Lowcountry Boil. My one recommendation is to read these books in order. The changes in Liz’s personal life will make more sense.

I read the first book in this series, Lowcountry Boil, quite a while ago. I enjoyed it so when books that followed were offered for reduced prices (Kindle editions) I picked them up. I finally went back and reread the first book and then continued reading through the series during the Covid-19 shutdown. It's made the social isolation a lot more fun. I'm not from the south myself, but I enjoy the South Carolina setting and the way of life the author shows us. Liz Talbot is a plucky heroine, her family is a delight, and the mysteries take many twists and turns. Humor is a big part of all the books and Lowcountry Bombshell is full of over-the-top characters. If you like cozy mysteries with a strong feeling of place, humor, and characters to root for, try the Lowcountry books.

I slowed down reading in autumn of 2013. I had novels I really wanted to read but my health and finances said 'slow down.' Years passed and I remembered this series. I'm glad I'm in better health now as this book was written at a pace that would have a healthy person panting.

You not only will be panting at the action, you will find yourselves giggling throughout the novel. There is also a story of love running throughout.

Marilyn Monroe, or should I say Norma Jeane, or is it Calista McQueen...anyways, one of these ladies has come to Private Investigator, Liz Talbot to ask her to save her life! Yes, and that is just the opening.

We find characters, oh my. Southern Ladies, Ghosts, Yoga Instructors, Therapists, Housekeepers, Builders and more. Some even have enticing names such as "Moon Unit."

Two strong, handsome men, both caring about Liz as much as each other, cause complications in her life. Which does she truly love?

So, back to Marilyn...is she really in trouble. Oh my yes. However, you have to read this book to see if it is physical or mental. Is it because she is Marilyn or is it due to winning a large (oh my yes,) large Lotto?

This is a winning series. The dialog and action will keep you up turning pages and watch out for the Hogs...

Lowcountry Bombshell is the second of the series. It is another of a long line of puzzle mystery story wrapped in a romance. For me, the puzzle side is the good aspect of the story. We have a cast of quirky characters, murky motives, and odd behavior with an overlay of southernisms. Oh, a talking ghost, err guardian spirit, and a boat load of red herring too. i wish that the author would have downplayed the romance aspect. Will she/he, won't she/he doesn't add to either the mystery or the southern charm. It's just the inevitable romance trope.

I really loved that the scenario was completely different from the first book. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more in the series. I find the town people of Stella Maris enchanting, because they are such an imaginative and fun loving group of characters. They are realistic and unique, and I am curious how the love interest will play out.
I have to say that I was so happy that I managed to figure out who was the bad person in this story, although to be honest, I didn’t get it 100% correct, but I was close enough.
