New York Times best-selling author Judith Viorst is well-known for her popular children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Here Viorst crafts a magnificent tale about a young girl determined to get her way. It’s Lulu’s birthday, and she wants a pet for a present. Not just any pet will do, though—Lulu MUST have a brontosaurus. But when her parents tell her that’s impossible, Lulu makes her way through the forest to prove them wrong.

I am a substitute teacher for lower elementary grades. I always attempt to bring a super-great read aloud book that the class has not heard. This tale of a little bratty girl who goes into the forest to find a brontosaurus for her birthday gift, is hilarious. It has a catchy little song running through the story, which the kids learned and loved very quickly. It also has an unusual format, with super-short chapters and a choose-your-own ending feature. Because it is longer than most read-alouds, this book with its short mini-chapters, almost creates an introductory chapter book for this age group; . Can be read effectively in two periods, so was very effective for two-day visits. Students couldn't wait to hear the rest of the story the next day. Through use with many classes, I've cut some unnecessary portions of the story which are a little repetitious, enabling it to be read in one read-aloud session. Extremely successful choice. So glad I found it. Good job, Judith Viorst!

I read the reviews and bought this book for my six year old, who loves reading. I didn't really put too much thought into it because he just wanted a new book for our night-time routine. He started reading it one night, with a little help, but it was too close to bedtime, so we stopped half-way. Well, he didn't wait for me to get up the next morning, he couldn't wait to read the other half, so he continued by himself. I had never seen this kind of impact from a book on a little child. Awesome!

I read this in the spring to my kindergarten students and they love it! They can relate to Lulu and learn a lesson about kindness. It’s a cute read.

As a second grade teacher I am always looking for read alouds that both the kids and I like. We LOVE the Lu Lu books. They are funny and cleverly written and so fun to read out loud. I hope there are more to come.

My daughter loves dinosaurs and enjoyed this book. She went through it pretty quickly so the reading level is probably lower.

My 7 year old loves these books by Judith Viorst. Lulu is a crack-up and Fleishman is one of a kind. Great characters! These are the first books my son has actually enjoyed reading. Please write more Lulu books!!!

I read this book to my second grade class earlier this year. They absolutely loved it and so did I! Funny and quick pace. Nice short chapters to keep their attention span.

My 5 year old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story is smart and funny, the illustrations are perfect and the plot keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.
As soon as we were done reading the book - we immediately ordered Lulu Walks to Dogs.

I am giving this a bad review simply because of the mistreatment of the book. I received it and it was near ruined. (see photos) It is all bent. I love this book and purchased it to replace a copy that went misplaced. Very unhappy that it is in the condition it is. I highly recommend buying this book other than its condition.
