When to Expect Your First Issue: Magazine subscriptions ordered at Amazon.com are shipped to you by the magazine's publisher. The first issue of a weekly magazine should arrive within 4-6 weeks of your order. The first issue of a monthly magazine should arrive within 6-10 weeks, unless otherwise noted.

Once you've placed an order at Amazon.com, it can take one to two weeks for your subscription to be received and scheduled by the publisher. Your subscription is then added to the publisher's next production cycle and shipped via standard mail. I wanted this magazine. But instead of sending it out, they send me a request for email out of "concern for possible future shortage of paper" requesting I switch to a digital copy. I don't want digital, never do. I have way too much email and my filters never work the way I want them to. So yeah, would love to say this is a good publication, can't confirm or deny at this time.

This (thin!) magazine tries to cover all types of writing, from literary fiction, to genre fiction, to nonfiction, to poetry. This means whatever you write, you will likely only find one relevant article in a given issue.

Even the few articles that are relevant aren't actually helpful. They state the most obvious things like they're revelations. If you just decided to be a writer today, and you have zero experience as a writer or reader, you might learn something from it. If, on the other hand, you have any experience at writing at all, or if you're fairly well read, this magazine won't tell you anything beyond beginner-level "insights" that you likely already know.

I subscribed for a year, and I'm over halfway through my subscription, and I haven't learned anything useful from it yet. I won't be resubscribing.

If you love to write and love to read, you may be fascinated by the magic--the science and art--behind the craft of writing and publication. This magazine explores these topics. If you want to immerse yourself in the world of writing for publication, you should enjoy this magazine which examines writing/publication through multiple facets.

Currently in its 125th year of publication--this magazine was created in 1887 by two Boston Globe reporters--the magazine's mission is unchanged: "to inspire, instruct and inform writers at all skill levels". Sounds good.

And the current magazine reflects this mission. I enjoyed articles on topics including "Ask the Writer" in which a contemporary writer is asked a question about his/her craft, Writing Life Tips, Social Media, Key to Complex Characters, a Writer's Success Story, Step-by-Step-Get Your Story Started, an essay on the writing life, reviews of books for writers and a substantive interview with acclaimed writer Ken Follett.

This year the magazine will have articles on lists by authors: their favorite fictional characters, favorite beach reads, collection of writing prompts, best opening lines, best movies made from books etc. I especially enjoyed the writing prompts.

The magazine appears to cover all kinds of writing: screenwriting, historical novels, memoirs, non-fiction etc. There is information on MFA programs for writing and upcoming writing conferences. At the end of the magazine there is a directory of agents, contests, conferences and publishers.

I really enjoy perusing this magazine which includes a wealth of information about the field of writing. It would be especially helpful to aspiring and new writers, or writers wanting to keep learning about their craft from other writers including the best in the field. It would also be great for writing classes. It's a fun read for anyone who enjoys books and writing.

Great stories for beginners and published writers

I just received 3 first magazines after ordering this magazine from Amazon. I have been reading these magazines slowly. There are quite interesting points in the articles of how to create a better plot, make a conflict, make your characters act according to their background and how to assess your plot and characters...
There are also lots of information about the upcoming conferences and contests, too. Also, advertisements include different writers' societies and groups, like for example SCWBI (Professional organization dedicated to serving the people who write, illustrate, or share a vital interest in children's literature).
The magazines also tells about the pros and cons of being a freelance writer, how to get published and how to get an agent.

All in all, I was suprised of how interesting and useful these magazines were.
I would give 5 stars for the contents of the first 3 magazines that I have received.

I like the magazine, but I find I have learned more about the various forms of writing from the writers Digest. I also receive Poet and Writers Magazine. Being a writer I have to keep my mind sharp and learn any new techniques.

I read this for years, then lapsed for a year through oversight, until resubscribing through Amazon. There are great articles by authors regarding the writing of fiction, non-fiction, articles for periodicals, and general issues. Moreover, there is an ongoing list of upcoming conferences and other events which has greatly helped me. I highly recommend this magazine to improve one's skills and gain perspective on others' viewpoints and resources.
