Honestly, reading this series is like being one of the “cool kids” because you ‘get’ all the hilarious inside jokes. The ones that make you randomly laugh days later, usually at inappropriate times, when you remember them. Like I want to yell “no one has power over me!” and rip up my tax paperwork or something equally destructive! If you read the book, you’d get the joke. Also I have Johnny Cash's A Boy Named Sue on repeat right now laughing my head off. And don’t forget the freaking dolls LMAO.
I've decided that since I can’t have Austin (cry) I’d happily accept Brachen, who we meet in this book, protective alpha males with strong arms are my crack. The final group is almost complete and I love them all.
This book had the humor we’ve come to expect. And some serious plot advancements. There is not much I can say without spoilers, I definitely don’t want to spoil this book for anyone. But I will say this, all those suspicions you had in the last book are proven in this one. And the full story is amazeballs.
I totally expect the next book to contain an epic Rocky-esque training montage, I hope we get an equally awesome musical score to go with it. Ms. Breene it would be fantastic if you could slip in a little Eye of the Tiger action (fingers crossed).
To sum up; take the shirt off, put the apron on, and turn up the heat!
And zaniness. She definitely gets a plus for that. And she spreads that quirk with most of the characters in the book so you never know when a good one liner is gonna jump out at you. Or a doll. Always with the dolls in this series.
Jess, Austin and company are in final prep mode for their big showdown with the Big Bad *wink* who’s been trying to kidnap her since book one but now it’s on his turf and with his rules. And he’s definitely not letting her bring everyone.
We are treated to a new powerful shifter for this adventure, a little bit of arson, Mr. Tom failing miserably *snort* and a couple of really good doozies. To even hint at them would be tragic.
This series is wrapped for a while but it’s not over yet. The author is taking a short break to finish another series so have no fear, we’ll see more mayhem of the Magical Mid-Life variety before you know it.

The intimate moments aren't gratuitous and having a protagonist who is older and has lived experience is so refreshing.
As a Kindle Unltd user, I tend to choose series. This one truly stands out in my mind. It doesn't merge into all the others I read and I get excited when the next installment gets released. I make the time to read it as quickly as possible and slow down because I don't want it to end.
I'm invested and I'm thankful for a truly enjoyable series.
I do enjoy that the protagonist is a mature woman and that her love interest is mature too.
Often in these sorts of stories Men can come across as a bit insecure, brutish and borderline abusive.
Not the case here, at all.
I enjoy the nuance of how the main characters respond to one another, weighing up their past experiences with their desires to move forward - I find this both enjoyable and refreshing.
Mind you, also helps that sex scenes it's piping hot, I can not lie!
I do very much look forward to the next instalment of this series
Magical Midlife Meeting (Leveling Up #5)
I just don't know how anyone can't fall in love with this eccentric but bad@ss crew, lead by Jessie Ironheart & backed up by the sexiest & scariest alpha in the world, Austin Steele!😍 After the death of her trainer Sebastian & his killer's 'invite' to his home, at the end of book #4, Jess is scrambling to learn as many spells as possible & to train physically with her crew & some of Austin's pack. She wants to be as prepared as she can be even knowing her mage knowledge is out matched by Elliot's by a mile!😳
This book is explosive, exciting & emotive. It's full of hilarity, solidarity, friendship & respect!🙏 The older members don't begrudge the younger ones their youth & vice versa, their depth of knowledge is in fact lauded by the younger crew members. They're all bad@ass's in their own ways, that definitely includes the newest Ivy House additions too.👍
I was mesmerised by this storyline & the fantastic storytelling within its world! I can't wait for book #6!😍🌟
