Not the typical type of motivational self help bookyou find too often on the almighty AMZ these days, thank goodness.Hollins is sparse in flowery language and useless platitudes and tellsyou without flinching what you are doing is probably not going to workand why. There are examples and stories, but only enough to illustratehis points and they don't bog down the pacing of the book. Each chapteris still quite dense and I really enjoy the "takeaways" he has at theend of each chapter to really make sure the lessons are sticking. It's a great place to reference everything in a short amount of time too.Look, you want to improve or change something, but how do you do it?Self knowledge is important, so is taking action, and so is pivotingfrom feedback. I get the sense Hollins had some type of businesstraining because of how methodically this book takes you through eachstage of change. Bottom line is now there are the tools and knowledgethat can help me... I don't think people really need motivation per se,they just need to know what they might not know.

The cover sold it for me and the content proved my decision right.

What we have here is a powerful book on what happens when we try toaccomplish...... anything! There is a process involved and there arepatterns we follow every single time. We would be fools to avoid themand thus Make Lasting Changes is a lucky find for those who find it.
From the beginning, there were historical models of behavior change thatalready gave a guideline to approach situations better. In my real life(off the internet) I am striving for a big goal of weight loss. How much weight? It's a lot, so much that I feel uncomfortable typing it orsaying it out loud sometimes still.

And now I can see this mightbe detrimental how I feel about it! Peter's book sheds light on whatkeeps us back from changing and one of the big ones is ego protectionand public shame and the like. That's me to a T right at the moment. But then another chapter after that is about starting and feeling that youmust while you feel unready, to the tune of only 70% ready. Frighteningbut it really resonates with me, and I think this book will be a strongally in losing my weight. Nothing matters but the behavior itself, notthe intention - from another chapter again!

Too good, give it a read and see the ways you can apply this framework to your life. - Reader
Wow, this was actually a surprising book for me.

Why would I make this claim? Not only because I'm a big fan of the authorPeter Hollins, who seems to write insightfully on a wide range oftopics. But no, this is actually something that "self development" isall about. It is about making changes, right? But there is usually someweird angle that disguises what we are trying to accomplish in justtrying to make lasting changes.

Enter the book Make LastingChanges. As I said this is what 95% of self improvement books are about. There's a change that is desired, so how do you reach it? While thisbook doesn't go into all the specific changes you might want, itdefiantly does go into what underlies and surrounds change in behaviorand habit.

From chapters on obstacles, motivations, gettingstarted, getting momentum (my fave), correcting course (most novelconcept for me), the environment, and design flaws... thorough job withan emphasis on what is sustainable lasting. Overall a great frameworkfor trying to accomplish any goal you have. One of the best books I'veread on this topic and destined to be bookmarked and highlighted. - Reader
