Contrived and unbelievable… but very good.

I see movies as either entertainment and/or escapism so I tend to ignore how they treat social issues like drugs, drug dealers and the general lawlessness of what’s happening. That’s a good thing for this movie everything in the plot-line is about as far fetched as it can get but it all seems to work because of the acting, characters and dialog. Isabelle needs some money and she finds a way to get it through some stolen drugs and her access to the police investigation trying to track a shipment and those involved it bringing it in and distributing it. That’s about all that can be said without spoilers but how it all plays, how she does it and how it ends was well worth the sometimes tongue-in-cheek approach so I can’t fault it on how a serious subject was treated so lightly.

Isabelle Huppert in a surprising role
Verified purchase
Arguably the finest actress out there
for years that is now getting her due and
it’s a joy to see her bring her unique abilities to this quirky but not really comedic film. As usual she owns the screen.

subtle french comedy
Verified purchase
french comedy: subtle, curious characters, nothing blatant. you can't take the plot too seriously, that someone could get away with this so easily. but it is an amusing premise nonetheless, and developed nicely by the writers and director. no outright laughs, but lots of amused smiles. huppert is the center of every scene and fills out her role very nicely, like it was tailor made for her. has some warm human interest stories scattered around here and there. altogether, quite an enjoyable watch.

A moving portrait
Verified purchase
A fast-paced dramedy that delivers yet another masterful performance by the incomparable Isabelle Huppert and great performances by the rest of the cast. But whenever the camera slowed down just a little to rest upon Huppert's face, then the plot, the comedic twists, and character tribulations didn't matter, for she just filled the screen with that je ne sais quoi that makes her one of a kind, on any cinema, on any language.

when the stars align
Verified purchase
when the stars align, they make a great little movie gem like this, acting wonderful on a somewhat simple plot line, insightful and poignant in some ways, delightful in others. yes it is a about a current ( well actually drugs have been with us since man's inception almost in some form or another) issue so don't let that bother you. Looked at it as what it is entertainment.

Isabelle: What's not to love?

Watching Isabelle act is like a personal tune-up for me. She's always a breathe of fresh air, no matter what she's in, and a role model for female empowerment. She's probably the greatest living actress today, no question.

I love Isabelle Huppert but this was not a good movie. It just doesn't take you there.

Isabelle Huppert! Light-hearted, sweet, dramcom with upbeat music
Verified purchase
Isabelle Huppert gives one of her best performances in this cleverly plotted dramatic comedy that is also a bit of a suspense thriller. Farida Ouchani is fantastic as the nurse / mother of drug dealers. And Liliane Rovère is terrific as Huppert's mother in a nursing home.
