Adapted from the bestselling novel by Tony Parsons. Harry Silver has a beautiful wife and a perfect child. Hitting 30, he panics, and throws his marriage and life away in a moment of infidelity. Suddenly, Gina is gone, leaving Harry to bring up his five-year-old son alone. By turns funny, sharp, warm and sad, Harry's story leads him through a minefield of modern manners.

Sometimes the other reviews are right, but I took a chance. Very good cast. The little fella is ADORABLE but no Academy performance from this tyke as some other review proclaimed...he's 5 for goodness sake! But this film is weak. it IS Kramer vs Kramer meets when Harry Met Sally meets Sleepless in Seattle but without the charm, style or wit. I don't want to pull a move down, but you are bound to be really ticked off if you try to watch this. And one more thing...the waitress/American is a poor actress...all veneers and rhinoplasty...that broke the camel's back for me.

Nothing much but sad

This story just seemed empty and devoid of plot. The man ends up totally settling on all fronts and ends up alone; his son living elsewhere and no significant other.

He tried to put a good spin on it as though he could see his son whenever he wanted, but it seems it's not that easy. He has taken a back seat to his ex and her soon-to-be husband (who doesn't like him and lets him know whenever he gets the opportunity).

Although the future was left unexplained I have the feeling that things his trouble didn't end there and that he probably had to continue to fight to have any say in his son's life. Consent agreements rarely work out because both parties must act in good faith and the one without custody usually ends up with the short end of the stick.

Not what I expected

I thought this was going to be a light-hearted dramedy like About A Boy, but it was more like Kramer vs Kramer -- without the soul. And then it turned into a hokey romance -- Sleepless in Seattle without the charm. It wasn't terrible, there was just something loose and unfinished about it. The script could be really stilted and awkward at times, and some scenes were trite. It couldn't seem to make up its mind what sort of movie it wanted to be.

And loses in the first quarter. :( The kid's not even as cute as Justin Henry.

Dominic Howell is the reason to watch this...
Dominic Howell is the finest young actor I have ever watched. Yes the movie is a rip off of Kramer vs Karmer (without Hoffman - thank goodness) and I also agree there is some Sleepless in Seattle (a movie I loved). But the reason you should watch this movie is to see the most outstanding performance by a young actor - ever! This kid should have gotten an Oscar for his supporting role.
