The story begins in New Mexico Territory in 1883 with the widow Nora Eckert and he 6-year old near their property hearing a wild bunch of evil outlaws dragging a man behind one of their horses following a severe beating. Nora and her son hid in some nearby bushes hiding with their lives at stake.
Hearing the outlaws mock the dying lawman, she watched as they stripped off his shirt, tied him to a tree and pinned his badge to his bare skin. A short time later one of the outlaws took the lawman’s pulse and noted he was dead.
After the bad men left the scene, Nora crawled out of the bushes with her son and prayed for the dead man’s soul. Within moments lightening struck the dead man’s badge melting it into the muscle on man’s chest. When Nora approached the body she noticed that he was breathing and had a pulse.
Nora nursed the unconscious man back to life; however, the lawman could not remember anything, even his own name or where he came from. When he saw the badge embedded into his chest with only the word justice legible, he decided to go by the name, Justice.
As Justice was healing, he realized that he had quite a full skills that he used to help the widow get her farm back into shape. The half wide dog and Nora’s horses took to Justice immediately and before long, he realized he had exceptional skills with a variety of weapons as well as hand to hand combat.
Although Nora, her son, and Justice were developing a family relationship the couple feared that Justice may already have a wife and family waiting somewhere for him.
The remainder of this book deals with Justice’s mission to take care of Nora and her son and to track down the men Nora described to him a send them to hell.
This was a well-written, fast-paced, action-packed, and spellbinding tale that I found very entertaining and satisfying. I can hardly wait to begin reading the next in this series.
Enjoy!
That's just the set up. The book has some clear connections to Louis L'Amour's Hondo, which had a widow and her son in that book. The difference is in how the widow's husband died.
Justice, and the reborn man is now called, vows to kill the four men who killed him. But first he has to recuperate, where he and the widow Nora get to know each other. This is a satisfying read in that the good guys get revenge for what's been done to them, and the bad guys get their comeuppance. It's the old west at it's best.
The editing is sharp, the characters are clear and well drawn except for a few out the outlying characters, and the story keeps moving. I'll admit to not being sure why Justice has to do what he does at the end of the book, but whatever. I'll keep reading anyway.
5/5* Recommended.
I enjoyed the firstbook and plan to read full series.

Nora is an amazing woman. She’s God-fearing and brave. Justice and Nora belong with each other. Hoping that’s what’s going to happen.
Justice is a superhero. Deadly but with a sense of morality. His calm demeanour is just the type that distinguishes a true leader.
Looking forward to more of Justice.
