Another great story in the series

Emmeline lived in a home with a mother who was caustic and mean. She never showed one bit of love and concern for Emmeline. She was always demeaning and physically abusive of her. Emmeline wanted an escape and when she over heard a group of gossips talking about Lord Anslowe's need to marriage quickly. She decided to present herself a marriage bargain, along with her dowry, to Lord Anslowe himself.

Lord Anslowe was amazed at his good fortune. Here was a beautiful woman proposing marriage, in name only, for a while along with a sizable dowry. Would their's ever be a marriage of love and companionship or just a a marriage of convenience?

I love this series. This is the 4th in the series that I have read and I have thoroughly enjoyed each one. Each is written by a different author but their styles are all very similar so each story flows very well. I particularly like this author's style and loved the book. It is a clean regency romance with plenty of romance and realism.

I was given an arc copy of this book but then bought it because I enjoy this author so much.

I loved loved LOVED the first 2/3 of this book! It was witty, clever, amusing... Oh, let me count the adjectives! Haha

A sneak peek of the first chapter had me hooked. What a desperate girl won't do to escape her cruel, overbearing mother. And can you blame her? The marriage bargain was one of my favorite I've ever read of the kind. Anslowe's reactions were perfect!

Their increasing affection and trust was fun to witness and it was as natural as it was sweet.

The ending did disappoint me a bit, but not enough to decrease my 5 star rating. It was not bad per se, you'll get your happily ever after, as all good romances require, but something, for me, was lacking.

I think I wanted a bit more resolution to the conflict--some bit of hope or promise--a Grimm-like retribution to the wrong-doers, rather than a general "things will pass and work out philosophy."

Still, a very enjoyable read that I will be telling other Regency-lovers to pick up and savor.

And the mark of a new favorite: I will be revisiting this again in the future on a lazy afternoon in need of romance.

All of the books in this series so far have been great - and this one is a superb addition!
I love this author's ability to create a good flowing story and believable characters.
All of the books in the series take place at the same house party - so there is a bit of familiarity there with some of the same characters and settings. The attraction between Anslowe and Emmeline is strong and the romance is sweet. There's a bit of suspense and a very satisfying ending.
This book delivers on many great elements of an engaging Regency clean romance and was well worth the time to read! It is well written and I recommend it and all the others in the series, which don't need to be read in any specific order.

Lord Anslowe needs a wife with money to restore his estate. Emmeline needs a husband to escape her cruel, degrading mother. For a year, Emmeline manages to keep her new husband at arm’s length because of his interest in politics and stay in London while she stays in the country, but a house party in Brighton will change all that. However, false rumors and accusations will bring changes, too.

The book had a few mistakes. “Off kilter” should have been hyphenated and didn’t come into the vocabulary until 1929, and this is during the Regency period. “In to” was used where “into” was needed, “those is” for “those are” and “between Lord Wembley and I” for between Lord Wembley and me.” However, the story turned out to be one of the best Regencies I’ve read in a long time. I loved it!

Sweet romantic novella. Goes along with four other titles in the Havencrest Series. I haven't read those other ones yet but I'm looking forward to it after reading this! The back cover says it all, "He broke the cardinal rule. He fell in love with his wife." That made me want to pick up the book right then and there! I love that this is a different take on a romance, where they fall in love after they're married. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Emmeline and Anslowe and how their relationship builds. But above all I really like the way this author writes! Heidi Kimball is definitely a must-read/ automatic pre-order type of author for me!

I so enjoyed this! I was very interested in their story from the other house party books I had read. This did not disappoint. These are novella sized books and are each good stories. This is my favorite of the series. An arranged marriage, a woman who is lonely and broken and a man just waiting to notice her. Loved how this all came together and played out. I am such a sucker for these types of stories. There is a chemistry that happens when you have a good author and two characters who are married and haven't found love yet. This is chaste with some awesome swoony moments:}

She overhears at a ball that Lord Anslowe will be offering marriage to a young lady whose dowry is worth less than Emmeline’s. Emmeline approaches Lord Anslowe about a marriage of convenience which will give him access to her dowry. He agrees, and their relationship begins. The story is enjoyable with enough ups and downs which serve to keep them each unaware of the other’s feelings. Great read and well worth the cost of the book.

I was also glad the characters weren't stupid and let misunderstandings get in the way of their relationship. To talk over things and get to the truth.
