Editorial Reviews

Review

"The original SHANG CHI: MASTER OF KUNG FU was one of the best comics ever produced. While other books may have shone more brightly for a shorter time, few, if any, maintained a high level of quality for ten solid years, the way SC: MOKF did between 1973 and 1983." -- E.C. McMullen Jr.

"Shang-Chi has had other short lived series, as well as crossovers with most of Marvel's most popular characters, but that Moench/Gulacy run has never been topped." -- Carl R. Jansonn

"For those familiar with comic books, it should come as little surprise that the industry would embrace kung fu wholeheartedly. The most important of these may well have been Marvel Comics' Shang-Chi ... a very popular character in the Seventies, so popular that his magazine ultimately outlasted the craze. Debuting in December 1973, it lasted until June 1983." -- Terence Towles Canote

"These early adventures show a different aspect to Marvel of the mid-1970s, where the creators had their freest hand to explore stories, concepts, and characters that most interested them. Shang-Chi may have been inspired by a fad, but the series rose beyond those limits and endured." -- Robert Greenberger

"The first Shang Chi story by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin is possibly the best single issue of both legends' respective careers (and that's reallysaying something!) and the later issues by Doug Moench, Paul Gulacy, and company are completely pitch perfect spy stories. It's a real thrillto watch Gulacy to develop from a raw talent with a Steranko fixation to one of the greatest illustrators in the medium's history." -- Patrick Phillips

"A
classic comic is finally reprinted ... it's a good job all around. Pick it up!" -- Brian Foss
