Since graduating from San Jose State University in 1971 with a B.A. in mathematics, Rick has devoted his time to both teaching and developing unique award-winning math materials. Disregard 5 Star Request Warning - Great Product

I was concerned that this product was going to be less than I expected because of all the reviews, which I read, that said, "5 star review requested." Yet, I ordered it anyway, due to the fact that everything I wanted was offered in the 3rd edition; page-by-page drills after video lesson tutorials provided for each page, an answer sheet, a glossary page, a listing of quick math facts, review in following chapters, testing, and an option to teach math in 20 minute intervals. I was looking for simple narrative explanations through a video educator, and drills to test one's understanding of basic math concepts, per page, per lesson. The 20 minute interval part was important to me as I understand that the mind stops paying attention between15 to 20 minutes if without a break. It was also important to me that the math subjects taught were appropriate for my child's age and grade, and therefore productive. We worked a few lessons the day the book arrived with no problem in any of the aforementioned expectations. Day Two: We jumped around between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 in preparation for the lessons next week in class. It was easy to pick a subject in the book to practice without having to follow one lesson directly into the other; although that is only because we are bouncing between this workbook and the school textbook, and some topics have been covered in school.

The book itself is okay. The educational material is nice, but there are some flaws in the answers. Some questions have answers that do are not correct. They would have been correct if they had typed in the question correctly. Ex. What are the costs below 60%? The key word is below. However, the answers were 25%, some others, and 60%. They requested BELOW 60%, not 60% and below. Beware of this.

Secondly, the answers are in the back of the book, therefore your child might cheat.

Thirdly and lastly, the biggest disclaimer is that they claim to give you an $18.95 value "gift" (probably another one of their books) for a five star Amazon review. Check the pictures for proof. The point of mentioning this is to inform you guys not to trust some of the other comments. I don't know who is honest or not, but be careful.

I wish the author would make a younger grade one with basic addition, subtraction, place value... something for kids in 1st and second grade would be amazing so they can move on to this.

I'm very disappointed in this purchase and will be returning it. This is strictly a problem workbook with an answer key. Any instruction or lesson material must be in the online videos available to purchasers. One reason I chose this book was that it had so many 5-star reviews. When I received it, I couldn't figure WHY there were so many 5-star reviews until I looked at the bottom of the title page where the publisher/author offers a free gift in exchange for a 5-star review. All those 5-star reviews influenced my decision to purchase and I feel misled.

I took a leap of faith with this book as there were no other reviews to go by. I am glad I did. My daughter is good at maths but has mild dyslexia and finds the jumbled up text, too small print and layouts of many of the U.K. Standard maths books of big publishers confusing. This is so refreshing. The layout is first class; clear print, ordered and no silly pictures and jumbled up styles. The content is excellent with lovely small steps page by page to build confidence and a problem solving question at the end e page to stretch and test understanding. Really recommend. We are using this as a Year 3 to Year 4 book.
