Science-Fiction today would not be the same without the influence of H.G. Wells. Books like The War of the Worlds, The Time Machine and The Island of Dr. Moreau still feel timely over a hundred years later due to their look into technological advances, fantastical creatures, and their social commentary. Now, some of today’s top science-fiction, fantasy and mystery writers pay tribute to the great father of the fantastic.
A Tribute to H.G. Wells, Stories Inspired by the Master of Science Fiction Volume 1: Mars: Bringer of War 2021 edition features all-new adventures inspired by Wells’s The War of the Worlds. Experience the Martian Invasion as seen from grizzled veterans, terrified lovers, desperate school children, and by intellects vast, cool and unsympathetic; from the blazing science of the stars to an Underworld of Fiction… and finally, to the war’s apocalyptic aftermath.

Following the start of the tragic events in Ukraine, a group of historical writers on an Internet forum discussed what they could do to help. The feeling of helplessness in the face of the man-made tragedy was palpable. We considered many options, each less practical than the previous one.
Then, someone had an idea. We were writers. We should write a book, an anthology, with proceeds going to help with the rebuilding of Ukraine.
From that, things flowed quickly. The theme of rebuilding became adopted: “Building a Better Future.”
That’s what you’re holding in your hands. The product of a group of historical writers trying to do something to help the people of Ukraine.

The United States is, relatively speaking, a new country; the colonies from which it sprung were settled by Europeans in the seventeenth century, and it gained independence only in the late eighteenth century. Despite this relative youth, the country has been host to a rich tradition of folklore and tall tales. This begs the question: if the country's fate had turned out differently, what would have this storytelling tradition have looked like? What stories would be told in these other Americas?
Stories included:
Coyote and the Great Sturgeon by Sam McDonald
Honest and Loyal by Alexander Wallace
Bedrieger William by Charlton Cussans
Prometheus, in a Jar by Brent A. Harris
Dawn of the Sun by Fabrice Guerrier
Hear that Cold Steel Ring by Josiah Depaoli
Bunyan’s Progress by Jared Kavanagh
The Yellow Coward of Texas by Al Carroll
El Transportador by Jason Sharp
A Proclamation of Our Manifest Destiny in the Philippine Islands by Ferdison Cayetano
A Time for Treason by Matthew Kresal

His name is one of the most infamous in American politics. In the early 1950s, Senator Joe McCarthy was a force of terror, sparing no one in his hunt for Soviet agents within the US government. Yet, on a journey from a park bench in New York City to the fields of rural Wisconsin and into the halls of power in Washington, his incredible rise to power is part of the most audacious gambit in the annals of Soviet espionage. When McCarthy targets his master's opponents, however, secrets will be revealed and the stakes raised, where the winner takes all.

The 1970s were a transitional decade. The hangover from the swinging 1960s, and before the plastic, neon decadence of the 1980s. Fueled by war, popular protests, flagrant abuse of power, environmental shocks, and economic discord, the 1970s were a synthesis of paranoia and partying in a rapidly changing world. Blood, Sweat, and Fears: Horror Inspired by the 1970s takes readers back to that diabolical decade, in an unforgettable collection of ten stories that conjure the nightmare of the 70s for a new generation.
