I was very leery about purchasing a mattress online, however after seeing a couple of reviews on Amazon I purchased a 12" zinus king size mattress. A big box shows up at the door and we did not wait to dispose of the old mattress and opening the new one at 7 am on a Friday. The mattress starts to gloriously unfold and to my surprise, the mattress isn't big enough. I panic, check my order and it says I ordered a king, check the inside of one of the boxes and nothing states the size of that thing, checked the other box and it says queen... at that point I have no bed since I throw the old mattress away, and I have a queen mattress growing on a brand new bed frame but it's not what I ordered. I contacted Amazon (which is where I purchased it from) and they are no help at all... they guy is like "well let's get you a full refund and I'll give you a discount on a new one, it will only take about two weeks to complete" what does that do for me? Nothing. And how was I supposed to return this queen mattress, when it's already unfolding? It came in a box, how do I fit it back in that box? Oh and I have no bed to sleep on! I panicked a little bit more, started sobbing and then I contacted Zinus via Facebook... Immediately received a call from a guy named Chris, he apologized for the whole thing and says "we are so sorry for this, we will send you a new king size mattress and you can keep the queen you received, we will cover the costs to make it an expedite shipping". Next thing I know after a couple of days I have a brand new king size mattress at my door. I put it on the bed, watch it magically grow and I can honestly say I can't be happier! Not only your product is amazing but your customer service was beyond great! Thank you Zinus for turning a crappy experience into something outstanding!

Buyer PLEASE Beware! I thought I was getting a great deal with this mattress turns out I got a medical nightmare instead.

The fibers that they make the protective covering out of shed into tiny airborne fibers that you then breathe in they are similar to fiber glass. They get embedded in your skin causing itching and irritation and also when breathed in caused breathing issues.

My husband and myself both started having horrid allergy issues and my husband ended up even having sinus surgery. Turns out our issues are from breathing in these tiny fibers! Very upsetting. PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BUY!!!! It took us a year to finally figure out what was causing. I know have damage to my lungs from breathing in fiber glass . There should definitly be a law suit banning these as hazardous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2018

I bought the 10 inch, from what I am reading, the 12 inch would have been softer, but I bought this for a spare room, so why pay the extra? Well, since my bed was destroyed by the movers, (thanks DoD movers) I am still sleeping on it, on the floor. But hey, better than the air mattress I was sleeping on x1000! Also, I'm too old for this, so onto the review:

Pros: Easy set up, not too heavy, I sleep good on it, and it was a great price! I've been sleeping on it for about a week (after letting it plump for 72 hrs) and since then I have been running around on it (yes, like a silly child) every other night or so to soften it up some, and it seems to be working. It is a lot more comfortable than it was the first couple of nights.

Cons: For me, I like a squishy bed, so this one isn't as soft as I would like, but I do sleep well on it. A little stiff when I first get up, but that could be from all the home remodeling I'm doing as well. It is firm, with some softness on top.
I am mostly a side sleeper, so it doesn't sink much on my side, but I find that I don't move much when I do fall asleep which is a good sign.

Overall, I am pleased, this will be perfect for guests and for myself in another pinch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice mattress, but that awful stink needs to go!
Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2018

We bought this for my 8 year old son. After letting it air out for a full week, we replaced his old mattress and he started using this one. Unfortunately, the stink of this mattress permeated all of his bedding including the stuffed animals that lay on his bed. I washed everything and took the mattress to the basement and let a box fan blow on the mattress for 5 hours. Took all of the washed bedding and washed stuffed animals and put it in place again. Now, I checked this morning and the stink is still there. I called the company and left a message, but they have not returned my call. That's poor. After reading the description and the company website, it doesn't appear that the smell/vapors are harmful, but they certainly are not pleasant. If you buy this mattress, be prepared for that. We've had the mattress for 2.5 weeks so far and it still stinks. I wish I knew how long this smell is going to last because the mattress itself, outside of the smell, appears to be good quality. Minus 1 star for the stink and 1 star for no company response.

3 month update: The smell is completely gone and my son loves the mattress. If you can get pass the initial period where it really smells, then it’s a good product. I’m bumping it up an additional star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leave the cover on. It works fine.
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2019

Decent enough mattress on a tight budget. Made in China, so don’t expect high quality or longevity. Lots of recent reviews here about ‘fiberglass’ inside mattress cover after removing it. The tag says “Do not remove mattress cover.” So... yeah.

My advice is don’t expect too much. Be smart & buy a quality 4” gel foam topper and use this mattress as a kind of base for support so that you’re not sleeping directly on it.

You will sink like a stone to the floor on all memory foam mattresses if you are overweight. Memory foam isn’t for you. You need a real, high-quality mattress and box spring.

A cheap Chinese foam mattress like this one is not ideally what I’d use, but I needed something acceptable fast. All things considered it does the job. It expanded evenly overall during the 48-hour expansion period except at the very corners, so minus one star. The rest is what it is until I can get a real Sealy pillow-top mattress again.

Good night.

Update: After about 7 months, the mattress is holding up fine, and it still feels like new. There are no issues at all with "fibers" or any deterioration. When I rub my hand along the mattress it feels soft and smooth. Again, I'm not overweight but slim and healthy, so a 4" memory foam topper on top of it provides a very luxurious and restful sleep experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars 6" Mattress Big Thumbs Up
Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2019
Style: 6 InchSize: QueenVerified Purchase
We bought this mattress for our truck camper. My wife ordered a 6" mattress because of high-density foam to the plush cover ratio (4" to 2"). I've included a photo to see decompression after ~72 hours. So it's getting there. You need to let it decompress but you can try it out while decompressing. So if you see it at about 12 hours and want to sleep on it, I say go for it. I took a couple of naps and it was awesome. I was curious about the time frame needed to decompress. I went to the zinus.com website and this is what they said about decompression. "Our mattresses typically take 48-72 hours to fully decompress, but this process can sometimes take up to a week. You are free to sleep on the mattress during this time. In fact, we recommend it! Doing so helps air flow into the mattress and aids in the decompression process. " Currently, it has decompressed to 5.5" but I'm okay with it but that's part of why it gets 4 stars not 5 stars; along with the corners being a bit funky. I'm assuming eventually it will decompress fully as well but will update after first camping outing.

I saw a few comments about fiberglass cover so was a bit concerned. My wife does upholstery and restoration of furniture, boats, and campers, etc. so I asked her if it was toxic. She said glass fiber is not the same as fiberglass. The difference is fiberglass is a form of fiber-reinforced plastic. So individual strands of glass fibers are incorporated into the plastic. Glass fiber is the individual strands which can be used for a multitude of fabrics and products. If you look at the picture of the back side of the mattress, the fabric (which contains glass fiber) also has little tiny holes. She says the holes and glass fiber work together to keep airflow throughout the mattress and those glass fibers help to dissipate the captured heat dissipate when you are sleeping on it. So no, it is not like fiberglass nor is it toxic or dangerous. Just wanted to clear that up.

Since our mattress is going in a camper we need a more durable top. The one it comes with is a fine almost terry cloth-like fabric and it will be dirty in moments. The cover would be great if using this on a bed and throwing a sheet over. So my wife is creating a cover using the bottom fabric it came with because she said it's awesome and expensive.

Comfort-wise I give this an A. Once it's decompressed (even a bit before), we slept on it on the floor. No problems. Back sleeper and side sleeper both approved. We did not sink to the floor. I'm 6' and my wife is 5'3" (so she says) and we did not roll into each other.

Well worth the price and we may replace our bed king size mattress with the 12-inch foam if this works out well for a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for young to middle aged folks without back irritations ...
Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2017
Style: 12 InchSize: QueenVerified Purchase
Takes some time beyond 30 days to get used to. Great for young to middle aged folks without back irritations or sportsmen/women types. For folks with some back issues (depending how severe and what area of the spine) it may take some getting used to, depending on the severity of the back

ailment. Everyone is different, in any event the first few nights were a great improvement from what i had experienced in the past 10-15 years.
In my case made some tweaks and many experiments with my pillow firmness and height to find a comfortable all round sleep position (back and side sleeper). My case is cervical spine sensitivity. Prior to this on other mattresses i would wake up with aches and pains, stiffness, numbness in my arms, neck pain, tiredness, taking a long time to actually "wake-up" after getting out of bed. No lower back pain or stiffness and greatly improved sleep now. For the price worth the effort in experimenting with the pillow aspects, rather than shelling out thousands of dollars for a mattress and not getting a good night's sleep as has been the case in the past 30 years.
This can be purchased with some choices of thickness as well and that my make a difference in terms of firmness preference, (if you can work that out beforehand). It is memory foam, so it does "give in" a fair amount to initially absorb the weight, then find support for whatever body type/weight
Read the specs in the product information table to make an informed decision on thickness and firmness to suit your preference or call Zinus customer service for some guidance, (1-800-613-1225).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mattress, but beware of Fiberglass Particles
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2020
Style: 8 InchSize: FullVerified Purchase
Great mattress we have a California King and it was great had it for over a year. But we just got a Full for our toddler, she complained she was itchy after 2 days. Saw her stomach and it covered with Hives bumps. And she was caughing every 5-10min. We had her take a baking soda bath and it calmed it down. Had her sleep on our mattress and the hives and itching stopped. Look at the mattress cover and it was glistening with fiberglass particles. I am giving it 4 stars because for us it was great, but for the toddler I will get another style mattress. So just a warning. Luckly Amazon return is easy and flawless. This is why I love Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's okay...for the money at least

I gave this 4 stars, but on the attributes of sleep quality, pain relief, and comfort, I give it 3. Why the 4th overall? Value. This thing is cheap vs. competitors. And although I don't give it great marks for the other items, I don't give it bad ones either. I used this in an Airbnb with a 3" memory foam topper that made it feel wonderful. With that mod, I got excellent reviews. I've since been using it myself without the topper and my sleep has been hit or miss. Seems like sometimes I'll have a week of waking up sore, others not so much. It's not the worst I've had by any means, but it's no where near as good as it was with the topper. I would say this thing has all the support you need, it just needs that extra bit of cushion on top for side sleepers. When I bought this in 2017 it was $275 for a king. You can't beat that. If you have to buy a topper to make it right, there is plenty of room in the cost difference between this and a name brand to do so. I'm not sure if I would buy a name brand mattress again after this experience. I just need to replace that topper and get some deeper sheets. Be aware, a 10" mattress with a 3" topper will exceed a lot of sheet capacities, but there are plenty around (including from Amazon and Target) that are designed for that.

I've had this mattress for about a month now. I was very shocked by this mattress. I was hesitant to buy one of the rolled up mattresses as I was worried it wouldn't roll out right or it might have a smell. My fears were put to rest. I love this mattress! I am living with a family member while finishing up my last semester of school and this mattress is a life saver. I love how firm it is but you still sink into it. I will say that one side is much squishier than the other, which would be my biggest complaint. I did let it air out and fluff itself for a full 48 hours before use. I flipped it at the 24 hour mark to make sure both sides could flatten as much as possible. I did open it within 72 hours of receiving so I don't know if that made a difference or not. One corner has a small curve to it where it wouldn't flatten but it hasn't been an issue and I don't notice it. I would definitely recommend this mattress as of right now. We'll see how another 6 months on the mattress goes.

UPDATE: Called Zinus directly to address original review and envoke warranty claim (mattress did not fully expand), and their customer service was as good as Amazon, going above and beyond sending a replacement in a timely manner without hassle and was asked only to supply reasonable information (pictures, invoice, and timelines). I do recommend pictures and timelines (to be fair), if you experience any issues with their products. Like any product there is a fail rates percentage but Zinus did everything they could to make things right.
Good to know info: you'll need the manufacturer tag info with production date which is sewn to the mattress cover but folded in half so you don't see it on the front. Flip it over for this info so they can better serve you. I love Zinus mattresses, have made several purchases over the past 20 years (lucid, Temperpeic, etc.), and Zinus seems to provide the most bang for your buck! If you have problems sleeping (insomnia), or have joint pain, Sinus mattresses are a good solution.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for RV bunk/cot beds
Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2018
Verified Purchase
Our daughter ordered a king size Zinus mattress had has been very pleased with it for over a year now - so, when I went looking for bunk-size/narrow twin (30x75) mattresses for our RV, I was delighted to find Zinus makes them. They arrived super promptly but I didn't unpack them super promptly. I think I was just outside the 72-hour window they recommend for unpacking them and letting them "re-size." That may be why the corners never quite managed to "reflate" as fully as the body of the mattress - but I suspect that phenomenon may have more to do with the way they cut these mattresses to size. Either way, it's not bad and I can't imagine it will affect the way they sleep (which I anticipate is going to be pretty dang good compared to the high density foam we used in the last camper and that the upholsterer wanted WAY more money for). However, if you're a stickler about the corners being all plump, you may want to purchase a more expensive mattress than these. From my perspective, for this price, these things are going to be ideal.
