Love the pairing of the two leads and their characters
Definitely a new favorite. Reminds me of Inspector Lewis and an updated Miss Marple series mingled together with updated themes and music.

Excellent new British mystery-with-humor
I found this browsing on BritBox. Very entertaining and excellent pairing of two very different detectives. I did find McDonald, the lead detective, a bit over the top. How long would you last with the emotional outbursts? Otherwise she is terrific. Maybe the writers' fault. Love the nebbish-y Dodds who is gray and unassuming but notices things no one else does and spends time in the library getting the info that breaks the case open.

Bath is so beautiful! I hope they include more scenic shots and locations. If this becomes a series, maybe it could do for Bath what Morse did for Oxford. How about a plot around the Roman baths in Bath?

There is a second episode for this first season but it is not yet on Britbox for viewers in the US. Why not? Can't wait.

Great writing, fabulous acting and the two leads are captivating. It’s also great to say that the music is incredible. All in all an entertaining show. Looking forward to the next episode!

It Works Very Well

The mysteries are interesting, and not too very difficult to follow. McDonald, a black female Detective Chief Inspector and rising star from London is transferred to a rural jurisdiction. Truly a fish out of water set up. What makes the series work so well is that seemingly plodding, zero personality Sergeant Dodds, her assistant, is a second fish out of water….he is wedded to past habits and techniques that have always worked for him…but not his superior officer who desperately wants him to retire. And secretly assigns the task to McDonald. As you might expect Dodd’s techniques work and rebound to McDonald’s credit. The relationship slowly thaws. The skill of the two main character actors makes the thawing a delight to watch. Spoiler alert…there isn’t even a hint of an age and rank inappropriate romance . Thank heavens. By the way, as I mentioned, McDonald is a black woman also striving to break barriers she finds in a white male dominated workplace. A couple of her new colleagues have some trouble figuring her out. Nothing nasty or offensive. More mutual fish out of water. This is a thoroughly enjoyable but unusual cop-buddy series with great twists. I highly recommend the series.

Love it! Hope to see more episodes!
I really enjoyed this show! The combination of the 2 main characters, McDonald and Dobbs is both funny and brilliant. They are so very different personalities, one very driven to succeed, the other has been left in the background for 11 years when McDonald arrives in Bath from London as the new DCI. Yet together, these 2 very different people manage to work together to solve the murder. The setting in Bath is also quite beautiful and adds to the show's appeal for me. I won't list any spoilers here, but if you love a good British murder mystery with a bit of humor mixed in, then give this show a try! In my humble opinion, it is right up there with Midsommer Murders. As my review title says, I really hope there will be more episode very soon!

Good pairing of cast members. Most are also well thought out plots with a good ending. Hope there is a third season.

The DCI character is utterly unqualified for the lead role.
