About the authors
Stephen Howard (17/11/1989) is an English novelist and short story writer born and raised in Manchester, England. He was always an avid reader but finally decided that, aged twenty, perhaps he too could write stories people might enjoy. This eventually led to the self-publication of his first novel, Beyond Misty Mountain (2013), inspired by an enduring love of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Beyond Misty Mountain was rereleased through Amazon in 2020.
Stephen has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from the Open University, gaining First Class Honours. His short fiction has been published by Lost Boys Press, Scribble, Dark Recesses Press, and others. Stephen's first collection of short fiction, Condemned To Be, was published in 2019 through Amazon.
Outside of writing, Stephen supports Manchester United and tries to get to Old Trafford when he can, though he does enjoy watching the match in the pub. He is also a keen pub quizzer - you may even have caught his brief appearance on Mastermind in 2017.
Scotty Milder is a writer, filmmaker, and film educator living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He received his MFA in Screenwriting from Boston University, and his award-winning short films have screened at festivals all over the world, including Cinequest, the Dead By Dawn Festival of Horror, HollyShorts, and the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon. His independent feature film "Dead Billy" is available to stream on Amazon.com and Google Play.
His short fiction has appeared or will appear in Dark Moon Digest, KZine, Lovecraftiana magazine, as well as anthologies from Dark Peninsula Press, Sinister Smile Press, Dark Ink Books, and others.
He teaches screenwriting and film production at Santa Fe Community College, Sol Acting Studios, and the Seattle Film Institute. He is also the co-host of "The Weirdest Thing" history podcast with actor/theatre artist Amelia Ampuero.

L.T. writes mostly speculative fiction shorts and novels while spending her days raising her children and satisfying her never-ending thirst for knowledge through reading, meeting people, and first-hand life experiences. She writes for various age groups and has several published short stories in the literary, historical, fantasy, and speculative fiction genres. She currently volunteers as a Board member and coordinator with WriteHive, an online literary conference.
Editor, writer, and painter. When not tending to her blueberry plant, you can find her sitting in local bookstores making piles in search for the most obscure and strange books she can find. Probably owns far too many Norton Anthologies for her own good. Unabashed lover of all things strawberry.

I am usually not a reader of short stories or anthologies, but I would guess it's probably typical to love some and dislike some. The best ones in this anthology make it worth the read!
Avoid unless you despise humanity and enjoy feeling hopeless about men and women.

Sometimes, there is no happily ever after. In this anthology, you’ll find 10 diverse stories of heartbreak and failed love. These reverse romance stories explore what it means to not be meant for each other.
What I Didn’t Like:
-Not all equal. I’m actually going to come back to this one in a second because the reasoning behind this is sort of beautiful when you bring it around to why, but it’s worth mentioning. You’ll love at least one story in this collection, I just know it. But you likely won’t love them all … at least not equally.
-Some stories need more time to settle. There were a few that were thrusting you into entirely new worlds. When this happens you need time to acclimate yourself. But in short stories, time is valuable. This is a difficult balance and, in my opinion, a few of these stories struggle with that balance.
What I Did Like:
-Stand out stories. Nameless broke my freaking heart. The Poe story that opens the book is AMAZING and sets the tone in a way I wasn’t expecting. Mouth could’ve been in the Chimera anthology from the same press, it will haunt my nightmares. Really, these are ORIGINAL stories that JUMP off the page.
-Diverse. This anthology features a whole host of romantic and platonic relationships running the gambit of LGBTQ+. Basically the anthology sets out to show the variety of different people and relationships that exist and that is beautiful.
-Something for everyone. Really the introduction says it best. This anthology has a little bit of everything, which reminds us what we all have in common. We’re taking diverse characters from diverse lifestyles in a multitude of genres and bringing them all together in an anthology with a common theme. There’s a HUGE message there and I’m HERE for it.
Who Should Read This One:
-There really IS something for everyone in this anti-romance anthology. Horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and contemporary all feature. Pick it up -- read all 10 -- you’ll find at least one new favorite.
My Rating: With the something for everyone vibe I really have to go 5 stars. There is a short story here for every reader and linking them all together to show us that all genres (and people) share this heartbreak -- the message is worth the read.
