Surprisingly Gripping
Verified purchase
I have to admit, I was not expecting what this film delivered.

Far from the physical comedy of Jack Tripper, Ritter (with a few very mild comedic moments thrown in) turns in a more than passable performance as the amateur on an assassin's mission in this flick. Almost as hapless as he was with Chrissy and Janet, this is nevertheless the story of how a lust for vengeance - and the thinking-outside-the-box innate to being an amateur at almost anything - breeds its own form of competence.

This may very well be one of the top 10 finest action flicks to be produced post-80s. Gripping storyline, great character acting, action scenes from fisticuffs to near-nuclear explosions are exciting, and an easily-grasped plot (we would all like to be Ritter in a similar situation), this is great to sit back with and simply absorb.

We should have the option of giving more than five stars.

Action packed adventure

The movie is nothing if not action-packed, to the point of being far-fetched. But heck, I liked the actors, especially Ritter, such a fine guy in real life and a decent actor. "The enemies of my enemies are my friends." No, it's not in the Bible literally, but it does say in Luke 23, 12 that Herod and Pilate became friends starting the day that Jesus was treated like a mutual enemy. It's the same idea. Check out 1;21:13 in the movie. They are supposedly in the mountains of Afghanistan and you see carved on a birch tree the word LOVE and below that AMY.

Special effects....or the lacking there of

This movie had some good actors, but the special effects were bad to say the least. The scene in church were the good guys were corner and the bad shooting at them they could not hit each other or the stain glass window in the back ground. The helicopter scene where they are taken off the the bad guys come out and are firing at them at point plank ragne and connot hit the helicopter. There are so many horrible special effects in the movie it is sad.

A pretty good action flick

The thing that sucks the most about getting old is that our favorite action stars get old too. Dang I miss Gruner and other action movie actors from the eighties and nineties. Seeing John Ritter really brings back memories too. Fans of the genre shouldn't miss this well made action movie.

Worth the watch for action fans.

I gave this movie 4 stars for its entertaining ability. Not the best acting, script, or special effects. It is for sure a lower budget movie. But I found it kept my attention, and was fast moving action for the most part, and I truly enjoyed watching it.

Love John Ritter and I was happy to see some of his humor in this movie, yet a great drama as well. Oliver Grunner is captivating -- movie was fantastic!

Worth Watching

Real poor acting on the millionaire that hires the mercenary to revenge his wife's death. He looks familiar. I think I was the poor actor in a comedy TV show.

Considering this was made in 1996 it was well done for the time of production, I certainly wouldn't call it a b movie.
Not everybody was a bad ass, but all played their parts/roles well.
