Update: My son’s feet were soaked after playing in wet grass, and that’s after treating the shoes with a water-resistant spray. I was pleasantly surprised that the shoes look more purple/less magenta in real life. I like the closure. The fit is a bit more snug than I expected, especially since I scrupulously measured and re-measured my son’s foot with Merrel’s size chart. There is NO way a size 13/13.5 would have fit - these are a size 2 and will be outgrown by season’s end. I also don’t know if I’ll be able to put thick socks in them. I’m skeptical about the waterproof feature now that I’ve carefully read the reviews, but we’ll see. Overall, the shoes are nice and look well-made, but they are a little stiff. I wouldn’t want to pay more than the $53 I shelled out.
