But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The sun always rises, bringing us a new day, with new promise.
For the fourth Short Story Writing Challenge of 2021, the authors were tasked with writing poems and short stories that reflect the theme: Hope and Renewal.
In this anthology you'll find 24 stories or poems written by 10 authors who did their best to find hope, love, and the promise of a new day. These stories will make you laugh, cry, and remind you that this too shall pass.
Get your copy today. And send one to every person you know who needs something to hope for and look forward to. Our goal is to make your day a little brighter!
This is Book 9 in our Short Story Challenge Anthology series.
Some people are determined to act as if everything’s normal while others are devastated that they can’t have their annual Halloween gala. Trick or treating has either been cancelled or there are so many rules in place to protect everyone from Covid-19 that it barely resembles its previous incarnations.
For the 2020 Halloween Short Story Challenge, I tasked the authors to look at Halloweens past, present and future. I suggested they view the holiday through the out-of-focus lens of 2020, but they didn’t have to. I challenged them to search outside the box, inside the box and all around the box, until they found something that resonated within them.
For many, this year has been one of loss, fear, uncertainty and apathy. It’s been hard to get out of bed let alone be creative. That’s why this was an especially difficult, yet important, Challenge.
The authors in this anthology accepted that challenge and they’ve written an incredible, eclectic assortment of Halloween stories and poems. They’ll terrify you. They’ll delight you. They’ll make you laugh. And hopefully, for at least as long as it takes you to read them, you’ll be distracted from the real-life horrors of 2020. Enjoy!
Author's Note: This series is an experiment in perspective and human nature. I’ve been wanting to explore the idea of how people experience things differently, so I decided to write four books about the same series of events but from different perspectives.
Each book is written from a different character’s point of view and gives more back story, plus a deeper understanding of who they are and how they see things. The timelines are the same and the major events are the same, starting with Stella asking them all to participate in a dating reality show, and ending with their epilogues after the show has ended. But each character’s journey is uniquely her own.
Each book is a stand-alone story with its own mini-mystery, and each main character has her own happily ever after. There are hints and clues throughout the earlier books, but you won’t know how it all ends until the final book in the series. While this is unconventional, I believe there are readers who will find this interesting and exciting.
Join me on this unique journey and experience the magic and mystery of human nature!
Author's Note: This novella was previously published in a collection of stories, called Black Cat Crossing, that made the USA Today Bestseller list. The book was discontinued, and I got my rights back to my story. I’m publishing it as a stand-alone novella, but it does connect my Enchantingly Yours: Season 1 series with my upcoming series, Pixie’s Pies and Potions. “Bewitching Henry” takes place just after Stella’s story in “When Witches Come True,” (Pixie and Henry are introduced in that book, as well.)
