Midlife Bounty Hunter: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (The Forty Proof Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
# 1 in Women's Fantasy Fiction!
#1 in Fantasy & Futuristic Romance
# 1 New releases Werewolf and Shifter Romance
One day I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real.
The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter- than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah . . . and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert.
I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date.
At forty-one, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me.
When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it—I need the money more than I care about my sanity.
I have to embrace the magic and dark of my past.
And I need Advil to keep me going.
But those who’d hold me back better sit up and take notice, because a new woman is in town, and she’s not about to be counted out by anyone.
Even if she does groan when she rolls out of bed in the morning.

“A woman of age has far more power and strength than anyone else. Far more than anyone will give you credit for, and that makes you dangerous. Because no matter how amazing you are, they will always underestimate you.”
I can’t wait to see what comes next in Mayer’s 40 proof series!
**** I received an early copy of this book and was asked to leave a fair and honest review, these are solely my own truthful and personal opinions ****
Shannon has outdone herself once again. 🤩💖
I absolutely loved every second of Grave Magic Bounty!!
It is filled with interesting characters, wit & sarcasm & enough twists & turns to keep you reading as fast as you can.
This is one that I will definitely be rereading.
But, but, but.
The 'old' jokes and references to the protag's age are not subtle or infrequent. In fact, they're kind of a bombardment. I kind of get what the author is trying to do here, but I also think they could do it less overtly and with less emphasis on the age thing. The protagonist isn't old. She's not 80 years old and in need of a hip replacement. She is not, except in some unusual cases, close to menopause or hot flashes. She's just a grown-up who knows who she is and is comfortable with that. That's OK. Go with that. Let it speak for itself. And please, drop the menopause jokes.

"..they don't know the power of a woman who owns every part of herself."
It was so freaking fantastic! Enjoyed every minute of it. I felt Bree’s every movement and hurting with her as if it was me.
Loved every character- some to love, some to hate. Yelled, shouted and laughed with all my heart into it. Perfection! Thank you Shannon Mayer for this incredibly freaking amazing book and can't wait to see what Shannon Mayer has up to her sleeve for Bree and her companions in future!
If you think this new genre isn't for you, you are wrong, because you really don't want to miss it, believe me!
The bones of the story are fair, but the dialogue, plus the heroine being rather stupid, thinking more with her ovaries than her brain, make this a book that I was unable to read without skipping huge sections.
A series to avoid if you like better written literature and more rounded characters.
The heroine Bree heads back to her hometown after a nasty divorce, finally willing to acknowledge the supernatural world, after years of denial to appease her scumbag ex-husband.
She's in her 40s and being mature means she can think on her feet, and adapt. It means she gets patronised, written off, insulted. It means she strikes back, and when knocked down picks herself up. And she's got an innate sex appeal that angers and attracts her hunkier opponents. From the beginning, she's in WAY over her head. But she rises to every challenge, going to to toe with the bad guys. Shannon Mayer shows her skills as an author, the story moves along briskly, the odd plot twist here and there.
A great start to a new series!
