All Bree really wants is to bury her head in the sand, somewhere in the south of France while a hot pool boy rubs lotion on her back.
Instead, Bree gets blackmailed by the Council of Savannah into a job she doesn’t want—though it does take her to France. They need her to bring a witch back to Savannah for a trial that Bree is sure is a load of hooey.
But not just any witch. The first one. The oldest one. The one who makes a t-rex look like he’s howling about a sore tooth. The one who makes the wicked witch of the west look like your sweet old nanny, the one who . . .well you get the picture.
Bree’s job? Find her. Befriend her. And convince her to come back to Savannah for safekeeping.
But someone else has gotten a head start, and their reasons for tracking down the miserable old witch are far worse than the council's reasons.
None other than a sexy, growly blacksmith with pretty eyes who makes Bree’s panties melt even though she knows he isn’t for her. And he is looking for the same miserable old lady.
Throw in a lovesick siren, and a slew of new problems, and you’ve got Bree’s next adventure busting at the seams. And no, it isn’t because her pants are too small.

About the author

Shannon Mayer lives in the southwestern tip of Canada with her husband and son, on a farm full of animals. She has a tendency to write stories that blend action, unexpected twists, and humor with a touch of romance that leaves readers on the edges of their seats. If you can't handle a bit of salty language and heart pounding moments that leave you gripping your kindle or book, you should probably leave now. #NoWiltingFlowersAllowed
She is the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestselling author of numerous urban fantasy, paranormal romance and epic fantasy style books.

I want Bree with Crash. I appreciate the prologue because we got a peek behind the curtain and then it all crashed and burned...mostly, sort of. See what I mean? Forward and then back. I'm wishing I had Two to three more years to care about the next 3 or 6 books remaining in this series, but I'm not sure it's worth that investment. Especially with the way this one ends. I've added book 7 to my TBR list, but that may seriously be my last journey with Bree and the gang unless our brilliant author gives me more worth waiting on.
All of that to say the witch hunter installment was a fun, action packed addition to the canon, I just wish it had given me more hope and not the same kind I've had for the first 6 books. Real hope. I actually feel like I've been left more hopeless than ever before. And that's saying something.
Just when you think something is about to change for the better with Bree and her pursuers, of both sides, Mayer just takes the story and spin, flips, whips, and sautées those freaking plans!
Picking up whether Zombie Hunter left off, it's off to the races again... and no time for heartache, or Advil, to kick in! New monsters, globe-trotting and taking one hell of a sketchy route, Bree uses her powers, her ah-mazing leathers & gear (which I desperately want), and her trusty knife help her blaze a path through the unknown. Always to save what she holds dear: friends and her hometown of Savannah.
I love Bree's growth and enlightenment about herself, those she's trusted, and her never-faltering faith in her friends, a few supernaturals, and even those she's just met, just makes my heart all gooey. She's been through the emotional wringer so many times, but that core in her never changes.
I'm totally #TEAMBREE, because the men in her life are fickle beasts, one and all, though they do all love her in their own way. Is Crash still hawt? Absolutely, it's that that morally gray way that gets me. Robert, well to me, he's always been that backup singer. And Corb... he's as wishy-washy as they come, being the biggest HoE of the bunch! Now there's Remy... he seems dreamy, and showed up for it when she needed him most, BUT he's a trickster. Time will tell. He MAY flip me to his side.
And Bree? I'm totally on board with her getting in love with herself: the flaws, and Eric's pastry-loving butt, too.
Ahhh, I don't want to wait for the next installment this fall, but it's going to be one helluva ride! I can't wait!
My thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No review expected, and no compensation was received.

Bree is really starting to evolve and find herself with the help of her friends- especially the ever so insightful Eric. We all need a psychiatrist friend who can bake! Shannon has a real talent in making me envious of not having friends like these in real life!
The weaving of new and old characters, some friend and foe is beautifully crafted. Very much a concept of nothing is black and white but grey. As usual, I laughed, shouted, Cursed and cried. This series truly is brilliant and I dare say the best in the new trend of midlife women stories that have recently popped up. I am desperately wanting more if Bree!

I wholeheartedly agree with all the other 5 star reviews. This series not only gets under your skin, it seeps into your heart and soul. I’m living every moment along with Bree and her fabulous team. I cried with her, laughed with her and was routing for her all the way through the twists, turns, losses and gains this chapter in her journey brought. Shannon, I adore the way your mind works and I adore your writing. I know it’s not realistic, but I don’t want this series to end, ever, love it so much 😁 It’s going to be a looooong wait until August!

Another excellent addition to this fantastic series.👍
I really liked the new characters, especially Remy. It was fun having it mostly set in Paris, France. There are some big losses for Bree and her crew in this book. as always humour offsets the sad times perfectly. The story is all woven together so intricately it's mind blowing! I honestly don't know how the author keeps everything straight.😳
As always, I highly recommend this series. I look forward to the next addition in the Forty Proof series.😍
