Midnight, Texas is a great show!

It's basically a supernatural super-hero team and that's a combination that I really love! I like all of the main characters, which is pretty rare these days. I like seeing them bounce of each other, watching as their secrets come back to haunt not only them but the odd little family they have in this tiny town. Each actor does a great job with their character, and with the chemistry with all the other unusual people of Midnight. The stories build well on each other, and it was clever to space out the backstories of the characters so you still have more to look forward to instead of keeping you guessing what each character is -- in this day and age of being cancelled after just one show, they knew they had to throw it all out there to try and build an audience fast. I also like how multi-racial the cast is, as well as the couples. I honestly feel like there is a little something here for almost anyone -- haters need not stop by Midnight. It's a place of acceptance and forgiveness, even if your secret brings a big fight to their doorstop!

Has Potential

There are some very good actors in this pilot - ones that I have liked in other shows - so I have hope for the character development. Having never read the books, I watched the pilot simply because it looked interesting. I am willing to see how the story line improves, and hope the cast chemistry can come together. If that happens, they'll have something worth watching.

Pleasantly Surprised

The show sticks somewhat to the books, though it does deviate a bit. The characters didn't quite match up to those I had in my minds eye while reading the books, but then they hardly ever do. One of my biggest grips is, while the book Chuy is an angel, the show Chuy is a demon (hated it). I also hate the rogue angel angle (see what I did there)? I love Lemuel, he is the perfect vampire! Overall, if you read the books, don't expect alot from the show.

Love this show!

I've become addicted to this show and have pulled the rest of my household into the addiction with me. The characters and story are great and I'm eagerly waiting for season 2 to start in October. Although a word of warning if you're a fan of the books, the TV adaptation is completely different and has very little in common with the books besides character names and a few plot points. That being said I admit that for once I actually like the TV adaptation better than the books.

Good mix of humor and weirdness

The personal mysteries surrounding the characters have kept me watching to find out more about them, and the humor reminds me a little of "Supernatural" or "Grimm" TV series. The cast is diverse, with an ongoing theme about prejudices and intolerance of various sorts, but it doesn't get preachy about it. The "hero" is something of a reformed con artist who sometimes just told his customers what they wanted to hear, but he's also a legitimate psychic who can commune with the spirits of the dead. I thought that was an interesting mixture of character traits.

Captures the quirky supernatural world of Charlaine Harris' books.
Verified purchase
I have read all of Ms. Harris' books so it may be a bit hard for me to be unbiased. I think that this series captures her quirky supernatural world better than the True Blood series. Made for mainstream TV and not for HBO fans of the TB series may be missing the sexy, gory edge . However, I am finding this interpretation of the Midnight books to be good escapist fun. I would like too see the series continue and see where it takes us. 5 stars because I love the books, if I could have 4.5 might be more accurate

Mystery, the occult, and found-family
Verified purchase
I picked this up because I enjoyed the books it's based on. It's a pretty good adaptation; while it mixes up elements from books 1 and 3, and adds a few episodes that don't occur in the books, it all holds together very well. I like the feeling of "found family" in the way the people in Midnight take care of each other. If you liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you'll probably enjoy this.
