Old Barnaby verses New Barnaby
Verified purchase
I typically will not review movies or music because there is so much taste involved. So this will just be about anyone's concerns regarding the "new" Barnaby. Thought they had ruined the show with the departure of John Nettles. Put this aside, the new group is fantastic. You don't try and replace someone as good as John Nettles but it seems that they know how to do something in England that we seldom can do in the States, carry on in style.

Don't fear, if you have been, about the new cast...they are just as amazing as the originals. Love them both and will continue to watch and enjoy both equally. If you had any fear of the change, don't. Give them a watch and I think you will be pleased. Just keep an open mind.

Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver the other gold.

Let's get the negatives out of the way: If you watch enough of these, you know the formula. Dead body, then another and possibly another, all in a small picturesque village. Who knew there were so many murderous people in such small out of the way places? But then every TV series has it's formula. It is what the viewing fans expect each week. It took me awhile to get used to the "new" Chief Inspector Barnaby, but he does fit the bill. He's the cousin of the retired CI Barnaby after all. Charlie will also grow on you, even if you miss DS Jones. Sikes is a big plus, and he provides great pathos and comic relief. If you have been a Midsomer fan for many many seasons, you will love the new version just as well as the old. Give it a few episodes.

MidSomer Series 16 and all the others are excellent. Since I had watched so many of these shows with John Nettles, was not sure how I would
like the change to Neil Dudgeon. They are just as interesting with Neil Dudgeon as with John Nettles. Both actors have their own way of playing Inspector Barnaby. Story lines are always interesting and I enjoy them. Hope they are continued. These videos are one of the main reasons I
subscribe to Acorn.

I love Midsomer. I miss John Nettles

I love Midsomer. I miss John Nettles, Jason Hughes, Jane Wymark, and Laura Howard. The way the characters interacted with humor and kindness, and integrity was wonderful to watch. Neil Dudgeon and Gwilym Lee are ideal replacements, still miss John Nettles and Jason Hughes

consistent with the other 15 series. Good plots; fun interact among actors/character; the new assistant is a perfect foil and I thought as good as the early series assistant; there is a series 17 as well but only 4 episode

Really first rate show. I especially like Sykes who is a not so hidden treasure. It must take real acting self confidence to be in a scene with him!
