The book then outlines ten principles of investing. It tells about stocks and the stock market, bonds dividends and other investments advice.
The chapter on "Keeping cash in reserve" is very instructive not only for the beginner. "The reason why you don’t want your cash reserves to be too high is that your money is better off being invested rather than sitting around. When your money sits around, it's simply losing value to inflation. You want to keep a good amount of cash on hand or in your investment account to jump on an opportunity when it arises, but you don’t want to sacrifice your potential returns either by keeping too much cash idle."
This book zooms in on changing your mindset and making your money work for you. I found it to be well-researched and well-written. It is far more than a beginners guide. If you're looking to make changes to your financial situation, this book is definitely the answer.
I received a complimentary copy of the book.
This book is primarily of value only to investment beginners. It could be a pessimistic prejudice I have, but in my opinion you own just as good of a chance of becoming rich with playing the lotto, slot machines, or sports gambling as you do the stock market. The advice given is solid as far as it goes. It brings together a lot of what is around already on diversification, the power of compounding, long term versus short term investing. and so on. However, there isn't much 'new' or dramatic that can give the reader any edge in the market.
The big question is 'will it make you a millionaire?' The short answer - 'Nope!' At least not by itself. It does however provide a good grounding or framework to explore wealth creation further.
