Counterfeit Item
Verified purchase
I love the Mission Impossible movies, so I won't post a movie review. This is only a review on the actual product.

I purchased Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation and they were both fulfilled through Amazon. Ghost Protocol turned out to be a counterfeit item. It was missing the digital copy code insert, and the cellophane wrapping did not feel like the other movie. Upon closer inspection of the 2 items side by side, it was apparent that the Ghost Protocol cover had not been printed on a commercial printer. There was ink bleeding in certain areas and the text and images were not as crisp as the Rogue Nation that was genuine.

TLDR: When you open item, make sure it is genuine. Easiest way to know is to use digital code insert that comes inside.

I have alerted Amazon to this and will update my review after Amazon remedies the situation. Thanks!

By far the best of all the Mission Impossible releases Set a new standard for the franchise
Verified purchase
The Mission Impossible franchise had always tried to be bigger and better with each release. With Ghost Protocol they took it to a new level. The stunts they pulled off would become a staple afterward.

The story was about Swedish theorist Kurt Hendricks (Michael Nyqvist) dreaming of starting a nuclear war, which he believed would lead to a world renewal. He orchestrated a theft of Russian nuclear codes, and Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his teams of Impossible Mission Force operatives Benji Dunn (Smon Pegg) and Jane Carter (Paula Patton) with the addition of analyst William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) were tasked to stop him. Along the way they went to Moscow, Dubai, and Mumbai to add the international flare to the film. Those provided some of the most memorable action scenes such as when the Kremlin gets blown up or Hunt has to scale the outside of the tallest building in the world in Dubai. These scenes took the franchise to a new level. They also used some inventive gadgets as usual such as when Ethan and Benji have to break into the Kremlin and employ a camera and projector to make it seem like there’s just a blank hallway when in fact they were moving a projection screen down it so that they could get into a room. They weren’t afraid to make fun of themselves either such as when Jane has to work up the guts to seduce an Indian millionaire or when Brandt is afraid to jump into a room and have a magnet catch him.

Afterward the Mission Impossible franchise tried to build upon Ghost Protocol and have more and more giant stunts, but they never topped what happened in this release. It really set a high standard that made it incredibly enjoyable to watch.

"Making A Good Movie Is Impossible #123412341205189324"

Completely cookie cutter Hollywood trash. All flash, no substance. No tension, predictable plot, no chemistry between the actors. The actors are bad anyway except for Ving Rhames who shows up to say a few lines at the end. He's great. Tom Cruise is still as bad at acting as he was in "Top Gun". You would think practice makes perfect but nope. I did enjoy the fact that his character could take on multiple foes in a fist fight, walk away from jumping out of fast moving vehicles and do things like scale the world's tallest building yet he gets his butt kicked by an old man wearing a suit at the end. That's a good one right there. Sure, the special effects, and there aren't many to be had here are good but that's about it. I wanted something brainless to watch and this movie delivered that in fine fashion. Oh Simon Pegg was decent and Miraj Grbić's character was entertaining but he was barely in the movie. Disclaimer: this movie was made for profit only. Any waste of your time is the sole responsibility of the viewer. The producers are not responsible for your i.q. dropping. Side effects may include laughing at bad acting, kicking yourself in the buttocks for pressing play and uncontrollable shaking of your head from side to side.

GREAT flick but not for the faint of heart!!

I LOVE this movie, even tho I'm deathly afraid of heights! In many scenes, I had this weird sensation going from the pit of my stomach to my toes! If U can tolerate the extremely high exterior shots, go for it! BTW, as usual Tom does his own stunts. I referenced Amazon's x-ray trivia often and was surprised to learn Tom Cruise is dyslexic! Only one thing disappointed me...the trivia gave info about a scene featuring Tom on the exterior of a plane in flight on the way to Mumbai, India (formerly, Madras). I searched that timeframe several times and there was no such scene to be found! It was nowhere to be found in the entire film. I don't know if it wasn't included in the DVD or if it was deleted by Amazon, but I was very disappointed! That would have been something to see!

The Best in the Series
Verified purchase
I have to be honest, the M:I movie series aren't really my favorite thing. I've watched all the other films and I remember when this hit the theaters years ago I went, "I'll go see this for Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner." And to my delight, I not only enjoyed the movie thoroughly, but it became one of my favorite films of all time. To this day it still holds the record for movie I've seen most times in the theater (and I'm a major theater goer, so that says a lot). The thing that makes this film stand out above all the other M:I films was the full team dynamic. It wasn't just Ethan Hunt saves the world like all the other films pretty much are. It was less about Tom Cruise's ego and more about an almost family dynamic, a story with full character flaws and growths. The technology was cool but it quickly became apparent that it wasn't the most important aspect of the movie. The stunts were great, the shots were amazing, but really it was just the characters themselves that made this the best segment in the series. Imagine my mortification when the sequel came years later only to undo all the success they achieved (imo) in this film.

I would honestly say the only negative thing about this was the overly extended chase scene through Dubai. That dragged on longer than it needed to, but otherwise this still remains one of my fav movies ever. If you never watch any of the other M:I films, I'd still suggest catching this one. It's the only one really worth your time.

Just not for me
Verified purchase
I had forgot how disappointed I was with the first Cruise Mission Impossible rehash. Fortunately, it didn't take long for this one to remind me. I know a lot of people like this series, but it's just not for me. Too much reliance on CGI, often gratuitously so, and the dialogue is just weak in my opinion. I could barely get through this movie, I was actually relieved when it was over. I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan to start with, but I'm not anti Cruise either. He's definitely had some great flicks! I just think this Mission Impossible release, and the series for that matter, feels forced, rushed, or a conveyor belt assembly process. There weren't any surprises in this movie for me, other than the positive reviews some have written. It's probably ok if you're stuck inside on a foul weather Sunday with nothing else to do. Sorry to the hard core fans, but this just isn't my bag I guess.

got tired of it after a while
Verified purchase
Was trying to find something to watch on Prime, gave this a shot. The forced comedy relief from Simon Pegg (who I like in actual comedies) got old after a while, aside from that I was mostly enjoying it, but the constant barrage of the movie trying to be funny or clever wore on me to the point I turned it off about 1/3 of the way through. (about the point where Cruise needs to make an emergency maneuver to avoid some camels in the road that he should have seen and been able to avoid without swerving from a long way off, which I think was supposed to be either funny or cute)

I might trying watching some of the earlier Mission Impossible movies, they might be 'more serious' (not that that is always a good thing, just kinda what I want in certain action movies) as I get the idea that Pegg's character wasn't as involved in so much of the previous impossible missioning as in this movie, so there may be less constant attempts at humor.
