Stuck on an alien planet, her facility sabotaged and all her coworkers dead or dying, Vera Wade isn’t sure she’ll make it out alive. They’ve all been exposed to a drug that is making them crazy. She’s slowly losing all hope, until an alien shows up. He feels real, but he’s probably just another hallucination. A sexy one who seems too good to be true.
Now she just needs to convince Roth that their attraction is definitely real, once the drugs leave her system…before the unknown person trying to kill her finishes the job.

About the author

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author
I'm a full time wife, mother, and author. I've been lucky enough to have spent over three decades with the love of my life and look forward to many, many more years with Mr. Laurann. I'm addicted to iced coffee, the occasional candy bar (or two), and trying to get at least five hours of sleep at night.
I love to write all kinds of stories. I think the best part about writing is the fact that real life is always uncertain, always tossing things at us that we have no control over, but when writing you can make sure there's always a happy ending. I love that about being an author. My favorite part is when I sit down at my computer desk, put on my headphones to listen to loud music to block out everything around me, so I can create worlds in front of me.

She does the same thing from book 3 to book 4. You would think Jessa and Maithe would be next after book 3 delved deeper into their tension but nope Dohner decides to introduce Vera instead of building on the foundation she laid in book 3.
Its the same with the New Species series. We are literally 15 books into that series and we still haven't seen any progress for fertility for the female New Species or any female New Species born. Instead of building on the existing storyline Dohner keeps starting over with new characters instead of developing the ones we know and love. She's almost like a toddler in her writing, constantly starting new tasks and never finishing them. All the while leaving readers (parents) behind wondering wtf just happened and trying to keep up.
Again, I am a fan and will continue to read both series' and any other Dohner creates. Nobody does sci-fi romance quite like Dohner and I LOVE how neverending her series' are. I never like to say goodbye to characters. I just wish she would develop the storyline more instead of constantly introducing new characters. Like will we ever truly meet the Veslor king, visit the Veslor home world, or just go deeper. With all that said, I'm super excited about the next installment in the Veslor series. I think/ hope it's about Jessa and Maithe but who knows... 🤷
Though Vera was rescued, her troubles continue with an assassination attempt on the ship. Roth was surprisingly sweet considering how he was portrayed in the previous books. Absolutely loved it.
Now if we can just get the grumpy medic hooked up, it would be perfect. I vote for Jessa to be his mate. Lots of sparks would fly. Would be entertaining to see friend/enemy relationship become something beautiful and lasting.
Roth is the leader of his grouping of Veslors, alien shifters. When he is sent to rescue the humans on the settlement, he runs across just one survivour, who won’t let him out of her sight.
Vera clings to Roth as the only safe thing in her world of hallucinations, and it’s not long before feelings start to emerge...
This is the fourth Veslor mates book, the third featuring the grouping of fighters residing on the battleship Defcon Red.
Vera is a lonely human woman, who has been burnt in the past by human males, while Roth is a Veslor male who refused to conform.
Like most of Laurann’s books, this is a fast paced, action packed story, with a detailed universe, and some intriguing aliens.
Recommended for sci-fi romance fans, and lovers of shifters.

Looking forward to the next book.

This book reminded me a lot of Moon, which remains my favourite Laurann Dohner book. Roth sets aside his surly disposition and qualms with copulation to comfort Vera, who was unwittingly dosed with a hallucinogenic. It's the classic LD formula - bitta scifi, bitta hankypanky, nothing too angsty and a HEA. Chef kiss.
