The best-selling Extinction Cycle series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith first introduced listeners to a world ravaged by an engineered virus that turned men into monsters. Billions died, civilization collapsed, and the human race teetered on the brink of extinction. Humanity's only hope was not a cure, but another bioweapon. When deployed it killed 90 percent of the infected, but the remaining 10 percent transformed into even more terrifying creatures called Variants.
Heroes have risen up to meet these abominations. Men like Master Sergeant Reed Beckham of Delta Force Team Ghost and Marine Corporal Joe Fitzpatrick. Women like Dr. Kate Lovato and firefighter Meg Pratt. Throughout the world, survivors band together to fight the evolving monsters in an effort to save humanity.
Here's a collection of Extinction Cycle short stories that explore the human spirit and the fight for survival in the face of overwhelming odds from some of the leading voices in the post-apocalyptic genre.
This collection includes:
"Outpost 46: Deadwood" by Rachel Aukes
"Extinction Bridge" by Amanda J. Spedding and Geoff Brown
"The White King" by Eloise J. Knapp
"Mother" by G. Michael Hopf
"From the Ashes" by Michael Patrick Hicks

The action and creativity is equally as enjoyable in this second volume as it was in the first, and really sets the mind to wondering about life in the world of the Extinction Cycle. I especially enjoyed the story by G. Michael Hoff, who is another post apocalyptic writer I enjoy.
If you enjoy great post apocalyptic works you cannot go wrong with the Extinction cycle. I do recommend reading the series first, but these stories do stand alone, but perhaps with a little less understanding of the magnitude of the events.
Outpost 46 was a great story. It could have been slightly longer in my opinion. I loved the action and the characteristics of the soldiers involved.
Extinction Bridge was good. I thought that some chapters could have been longer and others a little shorter.
The White King was amazing. That was one character that I always wondered how it evolved. The character of Valen/Kyle/Scabs should have been changed or eliminated in my opinion. It felt weird reading his segments.
Mother was an outstanding book. That was the story that I loved the most. I wasn’t sure if the children were involved at first but as the story advanced, I was sure that they had to be involved somehow. It did feel slightly weird reading about sadistic killer children though.
From the Ashes was a good story. While reading it, I felt like many parts could have been expanded. I thought that they could have been slightly longer.
I enjoyed these stories as they brought back the gut wrenching fear and the dread as we wait with the characters as they face off the Variants. All of the stories are a great addition... However, one story really gripped me in horror more so than the others... The story Mother... answers the questions we have regarding children surviving on their own... That is all that I will say! Read this collection for yourself!
This is a great way to revisit the Extinction Cycle world with different viewpoints and perspectives. The stories are definitely fresh and original. This is a perfect anthology for those who want MORE! :) Based on these stories, I am intrigued to see what else these writers have written!
Wether you've read the Extinction Cycle books or not, these short stories are standalone amazing and perfect introductions to the series. The authors from around the world capture moments of pure terror in sometimes graphic detail. Some more graphic then others, but every one a helluva read!

Action packed ride in five stories set mainly during the start of the Variant crisis.
A step up from the first volume .
My personal favourite would be 'the white king' ,my least favourite "Mother' which is more a generic horror story shoehorned into the Variant world.
