Missy Goes to Annapolis: Book IX

After her second year at West Point, Missy returns to her Special Forces A-Team in Afghanistan for summer training. That soon leads to her being deployed into Iran and Syria. Her boyfriend Mike tells her that’s getting a little too real since she’s not just training over there.

Suspend your disbelief and come along for the thrill ride. The mix of supernatural abilities and current events keeps this series rolling along. P. G. Allison should never run out of situations to use, I hope her imagination is equal to the task. My only complaint is having to buy every book in the series. My reading budget does have a limit.

A bit repetitive but still a fun series

As I saw mentioned in a few other reviews, this book has a few retread subplots from earlier books. Even to the point where one of the cadets at the Naval Academy that was sexually harassing and blackmailing female underclassmen for sex was the brother of one of the West Point cadets who Missy got expelled for the exact same reasons in an earlier book.
Then Missy has to smack down the Baltimore mob, though not as creatively as she did Sal. More missions in the Mideast.
Nothing much new with the werewolf pack she's alpha of.
You get the idea - there's nothing terribly original in this book, mostly vaguely recycled ideas from earlier stories.

That said, it was still an enjoyable read. A few bits went a bit longer than I'd have preferred, mostly lengthy descriptions of weddings, girl talk and Missy's nights out clubbing. Nothing egregious, but I reckon the book could've lost a dozen pages of needless fluff and been the better for it.
I really enjoyed the early Missy books because they were maybe 80% action and 20% fluff. This book seems to tilt a bit more toward fluff and as I mentioned, the action scenes generally resemble earlier books in the series. Some of this is justified (such as Missy's recurring postings to the Mideast) as there are ongoing series-spanning plot threads, but the author's skating toward the point of "same plots, same people, just different scenery."

All in all a solid 4 star rating for several enjoyable hours - and here's hoping Missy can find some entirely new mischief in future books.

Couple of things not quite right possibly about the military. Hope these continue past book 10 .because she's still only in her junior year of college.

I actually consider this a 3 1/2 star book but chose 4 over 3 because it’s a good series.

Strange name as we were 52% into the book before she got to Annapolis and the last part of the book went really fast. I was really looking forward to the Annapolis experience.

I felt this book was somehow lacking and I can’t put my finger on just what it was. I’ll still buy the next book and I still like the series, this was just my least favorite of all of them.

Feels like missy is just getting more and more powerful, and whatever troubles she has she handles very quickly and without much effort. She hasn’t had a big adversely in a long while now, which I think it’s what’s laking in the books.

All are well written and the interplay between characters is very entertaining. If you look at the time and date of this review you will realise I read it in one sitting as soon as I could.
