It was amazing!
** spoiler alert ** Received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
Kari Lynn Dell has woven characters from her rodeo series into a fantastic series conclusion. Hank returns to settle his past so he can have a future. His relationship with his father becomes supporting and with time, even loving. As his father also finds a new love, the family heals. Hank's sister Melanie and her husband Wyatt are his toughest relationship to rebuild. They held secrets from him for years. Gil hires him as a truck driver and brings him home. Bing, who took him in after his career ending injury, comes to join him as he goes through his home town to recover from his past wrongs. Now he knows it all. Grace being the love of his life made his family keep the secret of his daughter from him. But, love wins over as he forgives her. This story of secrets, broken hearts, broken dreams, struggle to come back from despair and recover relationships will grip your heart and tear apart your resolve that it cannot be fixed. This one will be a crown in the series for emotional turmoil. Hank the reckless kid has become the man he was intended to be.
This series rocks from beginning to end with the stories, plots, drama, pain, joy, and characters breathing life into every situation. Hard conditions are dealt with as only a master at writing can do. It is heartfelt and memorable.
5 stars is just not enough
The characters in this story are so deep. Their journies are very emotional. I really enjoyed this book. It definitely wasn't light reading but it was well worth it and does have an HEA. I didn't realize that this book was part of a series. I have other books in the series but I haven't read them yet. I wish I had. You don't have to read the other books first but it would help with the backstory.
This was one of the best books I have read and I've read a lot of books. The characters are deep, the author obviously knows a lot about rodeo, ranching, small town life and medical issues. I usually wind up frustrated when I read a book where an author obviously hasn't researched what they write about. Not so with this book.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. The only downside is that the books I read afterwards seemed trivial.
I don't know why Hank didn't use one of the many profanities this book is so full of to tell them all what to do to themselves.
I liked other books in this series, some more than others, but this one is just bad.
The cast of characters just makes me want to reach out and talk to them! Hank and Grace are the best part of the story of course! Hank is finally a grown man and accepting of his responsibility. Grace is wise beyond her years. Between the two of them they eventually/finally get it right!
This book like all others in the series, is beautifully written and I’m only sad that I will have to wait a long time again for the next one!

Hank Brookman was a rodeo bull-fighter but a messed up home life and feelings of insecurity have plagued him all his life then his rashness leads him into a potentially calamitous situation and gets him fired by the people he considered family. Then a moment of indecision left another rider crippled for life and Hank himself suffering injuries. He has spent months living like a squatter on a Reservation with an elderly woman, blaming himself for everything. Then when his landlady/employer dies he is kicked off the Reservation and his sponsor Gil (owner of a trucking business based in Hank's hometown) offers him a job working for the trucking company and an apartment. Suddenly Hank will have to face the father who constantly criticised him, the girl he'd been best friends with since they were nine that he humiliated in front of half the town, his estranged sister and all the former friends and family that he's ghosted in the past three years.
Grace McKenna has been in love with Hank since she was nine years old. The daughter of a religious zealot she had a one night stand with Hank shortly after he lost his job(view spoiler) but he humiliated her in the local bar, drunk and ashamed he was unkind and dismissive. Now the sports doctor at the local high school Grace doesn't know how she can face the love of her life again, especially since she has now become friends with his sister Melanie and other women from his close circle of friends.
If you have read the previous books in the series you will have seen Hank as the cocky, know-it-all, brilliant bull-rider who lost everything because of bad decisions and ego. This is truly a Christmas redemption story as Hank learns to see himself through the eyes of others and builds bridges between himself and his father, with the help of his counsellor/friend Bing.
Other reviewers have criticised Grace's choices, I have to agree with them but I can also see why Grace did what she did, at the end of the day its a plot device and sets her aside from the usual way these stories go.
I loved seeing Hank growing and reestablishing himself in the community, apologising and moving on, changing his behaviour and owning his actions. I loved that he was all in and present with Grace, it may have taken him years to realise that his little red-haired girl, the one who cheered him from the sidelines, the one who shared her homework, the one who was always there for him, was his benchmark for all women and the love of his life but when he does ... he's there no matter what.
Overall, another feel-good romance full of love and redemption, hope and renewal, family (in all its forms) and Christmas.
