Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts—parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself.
Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.
Sworn to serve and protect the United States of America from all monsters by one of the country’s founding fathers, Franks has only one condition to the agreement: no matter what the government learns of him, no matter what is discovered concerning his odd physiology or the alchemy behind the elixir that made him, the government is never, ever allowed to try and make more like him. Such is absolutely forbidden and should the powers-that-be do so, then the agreement is null and void.
Project Nemesis: in a secret location, using sophisticated technology and advanced genetic engineering, the director of the very agency Franks works for is making more like him. And the director is not content with making one. Nope, he’s making thirteen.
Now all bets are off, and Hell hath no fury like a monster betrayed. Particularly if that monster happens to be an undying killing machine capable of taking out vampires and werewolves with one hand tied behind his back.

This book takes place right after the events of Monster Hunter Legion and primarily revolve around everyone's favorite flesh golem, Agent Franks. MHI makes minor appearances, along with some of the other monster hunter groups, but this book is less about guns and more about old fashioned butt-kicking courtesy of Franks. **Minor spoiler alert**: Franks and Earl Harbinger go toe-to-toe in a real two-fisted slobberknocker of a fight, so that alone is worth the price of the book.
I don't want to spoil anything about plot, but suffice it to say this book is filled with action and is set up nicely for whatever comes next, and that should be a real humdinger of a fight. Damn, now I want to read all the other Monster Hunter books over again!
don;t worry about getting on his good side, he doesn't have one.
and in the fifth Monster Hunters book we finally get to find out more about this government killing machine.
stop the world... Agent Franks opens up and talks about his past with words other than "Classified."
But now he’s learned that another top secret government organization is making an army of living dead to serve as super-soldiers. Someone has decided Franks is obsolete and must be disposed of.
Franks disagrees, but when he’s framed for murder and terrorism he finds himself the target of government and private monster hunters.
It’s Franks vs. the whole Monster Hunter universe. And it is glorious. One fight to the death after another in a running battle of set pieces. Throw-down after throw-down after throw-down!
I’m not the biggest fan of Correia’s MHI books, preferring his other series, but he excels at writing hardened, killers who kill bad things and Franks is the ur-example.

Overall a cracking story with plenty of action and an engaging plot, a few visits with series regulars and a great thumping finale!

Looking forward to the sequel!
