cant explain why I like this show

this is an odd little show that is intriguing at times and funny at times. I like the characters. Difficult to explain why I like the show. I do like the character development, the characters share their vulnerabilities, hopes, needs, etc. I like armisen and reilly's characters. Reillys character is similar to the one he played in Cyrus. I hope they make a second season.

Prepare to die a thousand deaths (laughing)
So, so good. As ludicrous as it sounds and the potential for future development is promising.

If you don't like the comedy of Tim Heidecker, Fred Armisen, and John C. Reilly, you'll want to steer clear. For everyone else who likes absurdist humor, you will (maybe literally) die laughing. Trying to watch Tim Heidecker keep a straight face while he plays his ridiculous, religious, well meaning but very dopey character is too much to handle. It's actually torture to watch him play the straight man and he does it surprisingly well. Fred's character is a wry yet goofy masterpiece and he's just as wonderful in this as you would guess. John C. Reilly is like the comedic glue holding it together and plays his role well.

I really hope this leads to more acting work for Tim Heidecker because he is a comedic genius. Tim and Eric working together is of course magic, but they are both so talented that I love the idea of them both working on their own stuff as well.

I got the sense that Tim was dialing back his signature reaction expressions and more exaggerated comedic acting, but I hope he loosens the reins a bit in future seasons because I think he could get away with a lot more.

Anyway, good stuff. GREAT JOB

Irreverent look at wannabe-astronauts in training
As "Moonbase 8" (2020 release; 6 episodes of about 28 min. each) opens, we are informed that the first manned base on the moon is nearing completion. We then go to "Winslaw, Arizona", where a team of wannabe -astronauts is training at the Moonbase 8 simulator for a possible trip to the lunar base. Turns out it is the team's 209th day of training, and that deserves some gifts and treats. But they have a problem: their water supply runs 3 with 3 more weeks to go before the next scheduled supply...

Couple of comments: this comedy TV mini-series is the latest work directed by Jonathan Krisel ("Portlandia"). Here he looks at the funny side of what appear to be 3 subpar wannabe-astronauts who hope to get selected for living on the first manned base on the moon. There are a lot of funny moments as the guys are battling one problem after another (in Episode 1: lack of water; in Episode 2: homesickness and a prowler, etc.). No, this isn't laugh out loud type comedy, but more the chuckle by yourself type comedy. Watch the guys discuss what NASA stands for. Or how they decide to shorten the suite up time. And so on. The series is helped immensely by the chemistry between the three main stars: Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker and John C. Reilly (of course!). Watch out as well for an appearance by Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, playing himself.

"Moonbease 8" premiered this weekend on Showtime, and all episodes are now available at SHO On Demand and other streaming services. These 6 episodes are binge-worthy and best digested in one or two settings. If you are a fan of "Portlandia" or of either of the three main stars, I'd readily suggest you check this out and draw your own conclusion.

Just What I needed!
The quirky, goofy (and cringey) situations on Moonbase 8 get funnier with every episode. Some moments are touching and others are "I gotta hit pause" and laugh out loud. I look forward to more from this talented crew!

I love this show!
Moonbase 8 is GREAT! I burned through all six episodes in two days and went back and rewatched a few. I really hope that there is more to come. Subtle, but really stupid comedy.

WHAT A DUD. SNOOOOOOOOZ
This is SUPPOSED to be a comedy , as in make you laugh or at least chuckle. The only point in the first and ONLY episode I will watch, was when the extremely obnoxiously character of Kelce is lifted out of the hole he fell into by a crane towards the end. Sorry to spoil it for ya, but there really is nothing here to spoil. I recall watching the first EP of the sleeper Norsemen and how it grabbed me from the 60 seconds and wouldn't let go until I binged every episode! I kept waiting and waiting and , groan, waiting for something funny to happen. I was ready to bail at 16 minutes but decided since I was so bored, to give it until the end. Sorry folks but this one is a non lift off. ( Try The Good Lord Bird instead. Not only is it an awesome lesson in historical fact, with fantastic writing and acting, but often brings out the laugh machine in you in almost every episode (I can only imagine this was intentional ). I only gave this a 1 star because I had to for submission wanted t give a NO STAR .
