Between intriguing new cases and troubling personal developments, Precious' hands are full. The four Miss Beauty and Integrity pageant finalists may have questionable moral fiber, and the brother of an important government worker has allegedly been poisoned. On top of all that, Precious' reliable fianci might be hiding something.
Life is more difficult than ever at the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, but it's nothing a little clear thinking and a few mugs of bush tea can't candle.

The first decision to be made will that of where to live. Mma Ramotswe has a well established yard with several trees and a melon patch. Her house is more comfortable and more pleasing inside than Mr. Matekoni’s, so they have made a mutual decision to live there on Zebra Drive. The children which Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni agreed to care for have already moved in there and Mr. Matekoni takes his evening meal there.
Then there are decisions about the businesses to be made. After the wedding they would have two businesses with two offices. Mr. Matekoni has a large amount of office space at Tlocweng Road Soeedy Motors, so it makes sense for Mma Ramotswe to move her office there. She has also decided that Mma Makutsi will work for both businesses as assistant detective for one and as a secretary for both, because Mr. Matekoni needs help with his record keeping.
When Mma Ramotswe goes to explain why Mma Makutsi should work for Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors as well as No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency to Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni, he is not there, and the apprentices tell her that he has gone home. It is only two o’clock, so this is odd.
On questioning the apprentices more she discovers that he has left early a good deal lately. He has also not been working on cars himself, but has left a lot of the work to the apprentices. He has also not given them guidance or instruction about repairs even when they asked him to do so.
What is going on with Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni? Is he ill? Can Mma Ramotswe find out the cause of the change in his behavior without offending or pressuring him? Will this problem affect the wedding?

What a mistake! I found the writing simplistic. What I particularly did not like how the author repeated the names of the characters over and over again. After struggling through two chapters, I gave the book to one of the other book club members who appeared to like the series. I found that amongst the book club members, they either loved the books or hated them.....nothing in between.
There's no accounting for taste!

Great stories nicely written with characters with real depth.
