Motel Yawn?

I often see a lot of hate on this classic and I never understood why, it's a fun slapstick horror comedy
SF has got to be one of the best companies around as far as restoration goes. As for any person reviewing this as a streamed viewing I'm sorry but your opinion doesn't matter as you are part of the reason physical media is disappearing. You dont even get the bonus content, packaging or the bragging rights of being a true horror collector. Sorry for the rant

A GREAT movie!!! (if you like that sort of thing)

An old man and his daughter or sister (can't recall) have a hotel where people don't check out, if you know what I mean. The old man also has the best smoked meats in the county. You do the math.

Buy it, LOVE it!!! It is a must have for those who like to build a movie collection.

CULT CLASSIC WHEREAS A FARMER/HOTEL OWNER WHO'S BEEN SELLING JERKY FOR 30 YRS HAS A SECRET TO HIDE
Verified purchase
~ A highly praised & successful 30 yrs seller of smoked ham jerky & Hotel Hello owner, Farmer Vincent, can't wait for new customers & boarders. Albeit for him to become more successful & to make even more jerky.
~ One night as he picks up a survivor of an accident, a young woman, he & his sister take her into their home, as one of the family endeared.
~ All the while, the farmer & his sister secretly go on with their regular routine of making smoked ham, without telling the young woman how it's done.
~ As time goes by, the young woman becomes aware that something may be amiss about her newly endeared family, but is somehow understanding, until a unknowing relative of the farmer, who is a law enforcement officer in the town, becomes enfatuated with her, and who upon learning that she is going to marry the farmer, becomes determined to stop it.

A Bumper Crop Growing In Tobe Hooper's Shade

Funny thing that Farmer Vincent. Makes the best jerky miles around, yet he don't seem to own a single head of cattle. Yup. Yes indeed. Funny thing that...

This is a delightful organic salad of classic American horror tropes. It is clear, especially when you consider the year it was released, that it owes a basically existential debt to Tobe Hooper's groundbreaking Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It at once attempts to up the ante by offering original and perverse atrocities that make this as genuine a piece of torture porn as anything in the Hostel or Saw franchises, and on the other hand significantly lowers the seriousness by adding a level of Don Knots type comedy that still exists in quality horror movies today, e.g. Nathan Fillion in Slither (2006).

Just as long as its clear that of the two films, Hooper's is far superior, I have no qualms about giving this one five stars.

As scarey as I remember as a little kid. Showed this to my sister ( we are grown up now) and scared her. She of course had to scare HER kids with the movie. Loved it as always. Sooooooo creepy scarey. When driving 1 or 2 a.m. on lonely stretch of hwy see the motel sign of a all by itself on hwy motel I really get the creeps and think of this movie. Yikes! AM 60 yrs old and the damn thing still haunts me as bad as the scarey clown stuff.

Not really good even for a cult film
Verified purchase
I dont see how a dvd of this once was worth over 200 dollars. I always heard good things about this movie and when I finally put it in and watched it I was extremely disappointed.the comedy isn't funny, pacing is off, scenes drag on way too long, the head garden scenes are beyond stupid etc.The picture and sound quality is good but what does it matter when the only worthwhile scene is the ending with the pig head wearing maniac with a chainsaw? Some movies are made that come out unintentionally good/bad but this all feels forced and sloppy.worth a look if you are a die hard of the genre but only if you are drunk at a friends house and it's free on youtube

No GMO meat, and gluten free!

I saw this movie in 1980 when it first came out and was showing at a local cinema near my house. A girlfriend and I went to see the late showing of it. Even then it was schmaltzy, but we liked it. I watched it tonight for the first time since then, and had to share it with her on Facebook. All of a sudden, we were 17 again.

Some good cinematography, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Add some period muscle cars and toe-tapping music and you have a nice bloody cult classic. All in all, a fun evening. Now, time for a ham sandwich.......

80’s horror flick that delivers!

Being a huge horror fan, I’m sorry to say I had never seen this movie even though I’ve seen clips and mentions in many horror documentaries. So when the price lowered on this I pulled the trigger about bought it blind.

The movie, while on the surface, might come off as schlocky fun, it’s a lot more morbid. I enjoyed it immensely however! Some very great and nuanced acting by the actor playing the farmer and his sister.
