Intricate designs and was a little startling at first but then instantly fell in love with story!!!

When I first watched the trailer alone I was instantly worried on how age appropriate it actually was. The trailer did not represent the beauty and creativity put into this love story. But still even with the confusing trailer I watched the movie and I must say it was absolutely incredible. It blew my mind and in the end I had a good cry for like a week because of its depth of emotion the amazing actors and directors portrayed. I truly want to thank the creators of this movie because it changed my life!

I couldn't take it anymore and turned it off. Then took a look at the reviews. Was interested to see another reviewer say he called it quits at 25 minutes. I turned it back on to see how far I'd made it. Yep, about 25 minutes. So then I gave it another try, thinking that all the 5 star reviews and the 7.6 out of 10 on IMDB must mean it had some redemption if you could make it to say, minute 50. Wasted another 25 minutes of my life.

This is just too ridiculous for me. It's over the top, loud, obnoxious and just not funny or entertaining. Tacky, gaudy, really just not for me. But if this is your cup of tea, well at least they made a movie for you. I doubt you'll be finding anything else like it.

My absolute favorite movie.

I've never fallen so in love with a movie. It was introduced to me a few years ago and I have watched it countless times and somehow still manage to find new things to love about it. It is visually stunning/unique and flawlessly incorporates the genius musical styling of Baz Luhrmann (think 2013 "The Great Gatsby" - he did the music for that too!) I highly recommend anyone watch this movie (even those who don't like musicals - gasp!) This movie will make you laugh, cry, and want to burst out in song. Great purchase!

I turned it off after 25 minutes. Moronic, filthy, insulting to my intelligence

I turned it off after 25 minutes. Moronic, filthy, insulting to my intelligence. Borrowing songs such as "The Sound of Music", "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend," something by Madonna, and "Voulez-Vous Coucher avec moi?" for a play set in 1900. Seriously???

What a mess

I decided to give this a try, never interested in it when it was spanking new; OK, I lasted about 20 minutes hoping for something significant to happen. After 10 minutes I wondered if it was going to produce something other than the director's idea of artsy-fartsy sound and color overload (which gets boring after 10 minutes of it) and get to the dang story. Started falling asleep. Not going back to it. I was right all along - not interesting.

Moulin Rouge - watch again and again
Verified purchase
I measure many movies by whether they can be watched over and over (the best value for bucks); the more so the better, of course. Moulin Rouge is one. I first saw it before its release by a friend inside the industry when in London who had it in pre-release DVD UK format. I was shocked to hear Ewan McGregor sing so well (esp., Your Song), but many Brits, being highly artistic, sing well better than imagined. Great movie to watch over again!

It's different.

Generally, when I say something is different there is a hint of sarcasm. For me a "different" movie would rate no more than three stars. For me, this is different in so many ways. I'm not one to watch musicals or love stories. Usually find them to be boring or an annoyance. This I sat through in its entirety. It was entertaining with its music and with its Opheus and Eurydice story. It was different.

Favorite Movie of All Time
Verified purchase
Absolute favorite movie of all time. I never buy movies but when I couldn't find it on any of my streaming services, I bought this because I knew I definitely get my money's worth! The songs are great, the actors/actresses are some of my favorites and the story line is something that keeps me interested every time I watch it.
