This Is The Theater Version!
Verified purchase
My problem with this version is that it is the same one that played in the theaters. On DVD (NOT Blu-Ray), there is an "unrated" version that fleshes out the story a lot better, and in my opinion, makes a lot more sense of why they did what they did, and why they ended up where they did. These scenes were probably cut from the theatrical version because they are a little more "serious" and the movie would have ended up with a 'R' rating. I have noticed in the past that Hollywood is willing to give up important plot points in order to get that PG-13 rating to get the teenager money, and it's a shame. What is more of a shame is that this movie got released to Blu-Ray without the cut scenes. WHY? Only the studios know why they act like idiots.

They're so unhappy with their marraige they decide to try to kill each other

Mr & Mrs Smith is a very sexy and suave story of a dysfunctional marriage taken to a new level because the couple John (Brad Pitt) and Jane (Angelina Jolie) are both assassins. Their anger at each other gets so bad they try to kill each other.

The movie works two ways. First, it lays out the lost romance between the two. They even go to a marriage therapist which leads to some great scenes where their dysfunction is readily apparent. Second, their relationship explodes and that leads to some great action scenes like when they destroy their house trying to shoot each other and raises the question of whether they can overcome their differences or whether the gun will be the answer. The movie obviously takes the idea of a domestic disturbance to a new level.

An added bonus is John’s friend Eddie (Vince Vaughn) who provides some extra laughs. He always complains about his ex-wife while he lives with his mom.

So Many Unaswered Questions

So to start off the movie was good. Your typical spy/assassin/action movie. A lot of explosions, gunfire, dramatic jumps, dodges, and throws. Pretty straight forward in the genre.

The only issue I have is at the end. They kind of left it open-ended. What happened to the happy couple? Are their agencies still chasing them? Why would either agency care if one is married to the other and they clearly don't know it? Did they end up moving away to a different country? Did their agencies accept it and just move on? Did their agencies give up because clearly these are the best in their business unless they are willing to up the bounty? Did the agencies up the bounty and continue the hunt for the two agents?

Also, the biggest plot hole is that both agencies set it up for them to kill each other so clearly there must have been some communication between the two, so why didn't they just make sure those two assignments didn't overlap, if both of them weren't at the same job they wouldn't have known they worked for competing agencies. Like big mistake there. For them to even solve this is to put out the bounty of one of them. The one agency puts a bounty on the husband while the other puts a bounty on the wife. Simple as that. Whichever person gets eliminated first the other bounty is cleared. It's just a stupid plot hole that doesn't make sense in the long run.

UNRATED Version is Really the UNEDITED Version

I recalled thinking this film was good, not amazing when it first came out. I was looking for a light-hearted action film and thought of this. It wasn't free so I rented it. BIG mistake. This film seemed to go on for ever and get nowhere and then continue recycling earlier themes and plots.
The budget is there. The acting is just fine but it's just scene after scene of the same tempo and who-cares turns of events.

Didn't Play

I just attempted to watch this movie after receiving it several months ago. It started out playing fine then stopped about 15 min. in. I tried restarting it from the beginning, starting it after the place where it stopped and ejecting it and reinserting it but to no avail. It's a good thing I only paid $1.00 for it. But I really liked the movie and miss that I can't watch it.

Swing and a miss

I’m not really sure what I thought this was going to be, but it wasn’t. Again, I’m just a simple South Texas rancher that just wants to be entertained by a movie. I don’t have all of the poetic opinions of some others who review these movies. I just like what I like, despite directors or actors and lighting techniques. This one was just okay. It seemed a bit quirky and predictable most of the time. All in was okay.

Lots of fun!!

Extremely entertaining, lots of fun. Initially, Nicole Kidman was to be Mrs. Smith, however, after her divorce from Brad, he dropped out of this movie because completely, you see, his heart was broken. That is until they, the producers, surprised him with a new co-star, The wonderful and oh so beautiful Angelin Jolie.
This flick will keep you at the edge of your seat laughing non-stop for nearly two hours. Take a chance and watch it. You won't be disappointed.

Just when you thought you had marital problems. Imagine finding out that your spouse was hiding a secret life of espionage just like you and not you are told to whack your spouse..... Now what do you do. This is an epic movie. The action is terrific and the chemistry between the main character is priceless. To see these to go all out at each other shooting up there house to waking up drinking out of broken dishes is just amazing. And what would you do if had to defend yourself and your wife because you chose not to waste you spouse? This daring couple attempts to defy the odds of two separate entities to save their lives, would you?
