“Love Chopped and mysteries? This delightful character-driven cozy is just the treat for you.”— Kirkus Reviews
Six chefs are preparing to compete in an outdoor tent at Storyton Hall in Virginia for prizes that will boost their careers—but is there someone who can’t stand the heat? It looks that way when one of the contestants is found dead in a pantry packed with two centuries’ worth of cookbooks, among other treasures and rarities.
Could there be a connection to other recent events in town, like tampering with the costume of a local mascot? Jane isn’t sure, but after someone serves a second course of murder, the kitchen must be closed and the killer must be found . . .
“Readers will find themselves wanting to live in Storyton, no matter how many people end up dead there.”—Suspense Magazine on Murder in the Locked Library

competition between accomplished Chefs at the Storyton Hall
sounded like good entertainment for the guests and would provide a healthy income for Storyton Hall. That is, of course, until one the competing Chefs shows up murdered in the kitchen's Cookbook Nook!
Packed with twists and turns, this novel will guarantee to
keep you on the edge of your favorite cozy reading chair! As this tale unfolds, you are right there next to Jane as she searches out clues and strings them together. You find yourself trying to figure out who these clues will lead Jane to and wonder what the motive could possibly be. All you know for sure is Jane has stumbled upon these clues and if she and the Fins can't solve these clues soon, another new victim will be discovered! It is a race against the clock and Jane Seward feels the urgency of the challenge!
And so do you!
This book is quite the page turner and will attract established Ellery Adams fans but also entice any cozy mystery fan looking for a great, new read.

As the opening challenge draws ever nearer a fire near the main tent has everyone involved hoping it isn't a bad omen but things are about to get so much worse! With the local sheriff and her trusted friends, the Fins and the Cover Girls, Jane begins an investigation while still trying to keep everything else as normal as possible. As tensions increase for everyone, Jane finds herself far more involved in the finale than she could ever have imagined.
This is an engagingly, original, cosy mystery which was a pleasure to experience. Although this is the seventh book in the Book Retreat series it is the first I have read. This wasn't a hindrance in any way and I look forward to reading more about Jane Steward in her previous outings. The protagonists were a great group and there were more suspects than I expected which provided entertaining red herrings at every turn.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a slightly different take on the cosy crime genre and well worth a read.
