This December in Kilbane, if you’re planning to warm up with a cuppa tea at Naomi’s Bistro, you may have a bit of a wait—the entire O’Sullivan brood has gone off to West Cork to spend the holidays with brother James’s fiancée Elise’s family, including her grandfather, the famous orchestral conductor Enda Elliot. Siobhán is so happy for James and Elise but also quietly disappointed that she must put her own wedding to fellow garda Macdara Flannery on hold. Mac will have to join them later, so he can spend part of the holidays with his mam.
When the O’Sullivans learn everyone will choose a name from a hat to buy a music-related Christmas gift for someone else at the gathering, it seems like their greatest concern—until the cantankerous conductor is discovered crushed under a ninety-pound harp in a local concert hall. With the extended family—including Enda’s much-younger new wife Leah, a virtuoso violinist—suspected in his murder, it's up to Siobhán to ensure the guilty party faces the music before the killer orchestrates another untimely demise . . .

About the author

Carlene O’Connor comes from a long line of Irish storytellers. Her great-grandmother emigrated from Ireland to America during the Troubles, and the stories have been flowing ever since. Of all the places across the pond she’s wandered, she fell most in love with a walled town in County Limerick and was inspired to create the town of Kilbane, County Cork. Carlene currently divides her time between New York and the Emerald Isle.

As there is with any family, there are a ton of secrets especially with Elise's grandfather being a famous conductor who was planning a special announcement along with conducting the orchestra for Christmas eve.
Unfortunately, Enda isn't able to conduct the orchestra because he is found dead, pinned to the floor by a harp in the venue where he would be conducting.
It's up to a reluctant Mac and an eager Siobhán to figure out who done it before the miscreant manages to force her off the road a second time.
This series hasn't lost any momentum and while you don't have to read the series in order, you'll appreciate the growth of the characters if you read them in order.
I recommend this book if you like a holiday mystery, can handle family drama and very selfish people. This book is one I recomend on a cold winter's night with a cup of tea or hot chocolate, and a roaring fire. It will keep you on your toes and I don't think that you will see the killer coming!
I hope that this helps you find your next Tantalzing Tome!
Protagonist Siobhán O’Sullivan travels with her siblings to West Cork. The O’Sullivans are spending the holiday season getting to know the family of brother James’s fiancée Elise. When Elise’s grandfather mysteriously dies, multiple suspects include Siobhán’s future in laws. O’Connor credibly plots out Siobhán’s assistance to the local guarda. Lovely holiday details abound in this book - complete with tree trimming, cookie decorating, Christmas shopping, secret Santas, and snowy days - along with warmth and humor.
In a standout moment, O’Connor writes what is probably the most moving scene of this entire series to date in chapter 9 when Siobhán and the eldest siblings reminisce about Christmas with their parents. It’s a touching meditation about warm memories and the loved ones who are no longer here. Overall rating - 5.

It's not an original plot but is a pleasant read for those who don't want or expect to much. I found the the main character Siobhan to be somewhat annoying, overbearing and too good to be believable.
It was however, lovely to have an Irish setting. Something completely different for me and I learnt a thing or two.
