Aaron Eckhart and Finn Wittrock are superb

My All American tells the true story of Freddie Steinmark. Although deemed too small as an athlete, noticed by legendary coach Darrell Royal (Aaron Eckhart),he wins a scholarship to play college football in Texas with the Longhorns. The stars Aaron Eckhart and Finn Wittrock and amazing and put out such great performances that i filt like I was watching the whole thing in real life, I think this was in the late 60's and very early 70's and the story is too big to tell you all but trust me to say that it is both uplifting and exciting and sad too. I will recommend this to all of you that love football and story and heart. Freddie had it all. Again bravo to Finn Wittrock, he should be a much bigger star.

Good movie, but lacking a bit of respect for Freddie's beginnings
Verified purchase
The movie was good overall. The acting was fine, and I always enjoy Aaron Eckhart and Robin Tunney. I've never heard of Finn Whitrock, but he did a fine job acting. My husband and I enjoyed the movie and have watched it a couple of times, and we'll watch it again.

My only beef with this movie is that I am a Wheat Ridge High School alum, and I am very sad that they didn't film the Wheat Ridge portion in Colorado. The landscape they show in the movie isn't even remotely close to West Denver/Wheat Ridge then or now. I know that the focus was on Freddie's time at Texas, but it would have been nice if the production did a bit more research on Wheat Ridge High School and the West Denver/Boulder area in general. The only thing they got right was the Farmer logo that you saw in a few glimpses.

The scene on the hill where he points out areas along the front range almost made me throw my remote through the television, you can't see Boulder from a small hill overlooking Denver even now.

How has no one heard of this movie?!

Wow what a fantastic movie. I can't understand why it has received so few reviews but it did come out very recently. Maybe like it's hero it is just a true underdog. As a total sports movie buff, I can say My All American is equally as inspirational as any of the best sports movies out there. And what's more it's true. It's a great movie about a great man and great athlete you've never heard of. Well worth your time!! Wish there were more like this out there.

Inspirational and touching - loved it!
Verified purchase
This is a moving and touching movie about the power of determination, friendship, good old-fashioned decency, and courage! Freddy is a guy who is really too small to make it in football, but football is the love of his life and he is determined to not only make it in the high school team, but also get a college scholarship and then go on to become a pro. On the way he falls in love with his high school sweetheart who he stays true to, is an amazing scholar, and ends up fighting for his life at the end against a life-threatening disease with courage that astounds everyone. To say that I'm not an American football fan would be putting it mildly, and I didn't understand all the football moves and strategies in it, and yet this movie kept me gripped throughout, and both my husband and I loved it from beginning to end! This is a great family movie for any age.

I love stories about people who are positive
Verified purchase
This was a truly inspirational movie based on a true story! I love stories about people who are positive, "get-it-done" kinda personalities who don't complain but just push forward. The main character, Freddie, was a hard-working kid who earned himself a college scholarship even though he was on the small side. The coach was equally inspirational since he looked past size (what everyone else was inspecting) and looked at the individual and the contributions he could make. Good lesson on not judging a book by its cover. This player takes the team to the national football championship and is supportive of his teammates and respective of his family. He became an example to everyone around him through his hard work and good temperament. I really loved this movie!

Great balance of Faith, Determination, and Character
Verified purchase
Liked his determination like "Rudy," although Freddie got an offer from UT unlike Rudy. Good balance of characters in this movie. Sad of course to see Freddie's fate but what an example of good character he had. Little disappointed that his girlfriend Linda does not play a big enough role in this movie. Hard to find what happened to his girlfriend Linda Wheeler following this story's end. Of course I hope his Faith was the kind that takes you to Heaven.

Life Changing and Uplifting True Story Told Well. Amazing!

I loved this film. A remarkable story of a courageous life lived well. If you are a Christian, a sports junkie, athlete, enjoy a true love story, incredible drama and want a life affirming, uplifting film to show everyone or by yourself you will not be disappointed. Bring a box of tissues (or two) as it will leave you crying if you have a heart and also inspired.

Texas Longhorns

This is a very good movie base on true story of Freddie Steinmark gets a chance to play football for coach Darrell Royal (Aaron Eckhart) and the Longhorns in the late 1960s. Alongside old teammate Bobby Mitchell and new friend James Street, Steinmark helps the Longhorns.
