Not for children but it seems like that is the target audience.

Nine year old uses God's name, and other coarse language. Jesus Christ was used repeatedly. It had potential and a fun story line, but it was not appropriate family viewing, in my opinion.

TOO MANY ADULT THEMES and FOUL LANGUAGE. All the extra was very unnessesary and didn't add any value or context to the film. Not a kid's movie.

Cute and fun

Honestly I couldn't decide if I was going to watch but I'm glad I did. Sure the plot is corny and it's a cliché movie but Dave Batista and Chloe Coleman were hilarious. The duet played well together with funny antics and heartwarming moments. There is some violence but not bad enough to close your kids eyes mostly punching and tussling and some shooting no blood and it's PG-13ish. The movie is cute and fun with a great cast of characters.

Man the Rock is so awesome!

Sike! The ROCK can suck it! I am a Bautista fan!

This movie was definitely more on the kid / family oriented side of the spectrum. Obviously, one of the main characters is 9 years old so it is very light hearted but still there is some killing of bad guys. Those parts are almost more disturbing because writers / directors are trying to find a way to make adult themes child friendly. Here's some action and violence! but wait let's not be too heavy handed, yeah add the wilhelm scream to that bad guys flying head, ahaha now we are ok. Yes, gather around family and lets watch as the man is decapitated and we will laugh together about it. To me I thought it was funny but would I want to show a very young mind this strange desensitized portrayal of murder? A mind that is at its fundamental stages of beginning to understand life... maybe wait until 10 years old. 13 is too long they will already be pregnant and by then be SOOOO over watching movies with mom and dad. But all in all there is not much of this kind of murder is funny and ok vibe, only at the beginning and end. Really there is not much action at all. The plot structure was also a little strange compared to most of these generic hollywood blockbusters. Usually it's all good times until 3/4 of the movie, then there is some huge conflict and drama between all characters where everyone is hating on each other and then the hero saves the day and we wrap it up with a happy ending. Yes it does follow this structure but seems to add a little more drama throughout the story for the main character, which as a whole makes the movie a little more depressing. I would have liked to have seen more of the funny and silly Bautista but oh well. You don't get that usual feeling of, "man remember the good times" "now look how far they have fallen! everything is F'd!" Because it always was a little F'd up for the hero.

In general the movie was entertaining and enjoyable, I LOL'd many times... but I think the downfall is this watering down of an action hero teenage and up audience type of movie, to let's make a movie we can watch with our toddlers and not feel too upset about what we are showing them.

My Spy is a cute, family-friendly film. It was good seeing the big guy, Dave Bautista, in a romantic comedy. It's a five-star fiesta for me.

I was really looking forward to this after Amazon crammed the trailer down my throat like 800 times these past 2 weeks.
It's all been done before & we all know it... Kindergarten Cop, Cop & a Half, Central Intelligence (Kevin is indeed an overly loud little kid), Paul Blart, The Tooth Fairy, Get Smart, etc. Smh.
I really did want to like this since Dave is amazing in Guardians, Hotel Artemis, and as a WWE persona... however I ended up cringing at the dancing to a song that seriously didn't fit the movie and fast-forwarding through the predictable bits.
Oddly enough, Devere & Noah were my favorite Actors in this film. They are a must-see comedic duo with an amazingly romantic one-sided story. LOL. It's their story line that made me give this a 2-star rating instead of the 1-star it deserves. IMO, Devere had the best lines of this movie & definitely deserves a headlining show!

I look forward to whatever Dave is in next as he always takes roles that showcase his vast range. The WWE prepared him well for Hollywood.
Also can't wait to see how Chloe grows further in an industry that normally burns children out but she already has a lot of screen time under her belt so hopefully we get to see her grow as an Action/Comedy actress in the years to come.

Good family film that will make you laugh while making fun of action movies

My Spy takes a longtime trope in children’s film by hooking up a little kid with an adult. In this case it’s Dave Bautista who is CIA agent JJ and Chloe Coleman as Sophie. This play on the odd couple theme is made more obvious by the fact that Bautista is a very large man and Coleman is an elementary school girl. The movie takes the usual story arch where the man becomes the friend and protector of the girl.

The mood of the movie is set with the opening scene. JJ is posing as a Russian arms dealer but his accent is so bad he immediately gets found out. He decides to shoot his way out and they make fun of the action genre in the process. For instance, JJ jumps in a jeep and is being shot at but his main priority is complaining about the music on the radio.

Being a family film they put JJ in all kinds of cute situations like when he’s Sophie’s special friend she brings to school. He plays dodgeball with the kids and just the threat of him throwing a ball scares all the kids off. Another time two boys make fun of Sophie on an ice rink so he trips them and then gets kicked out as a result.

Of course JJ is a CIA agent so there’s a bunch of shooting and explosions and action at the end.

My Spy plays upon an old theme so there’s nothing new about it. At the same time it is a very good family film that will make you laugh.
