... the show I was not sure how I would like it. The show seemed very dry
Verified purchase
When I started watching the show I was not sure how I would like it. The show seemed very dry, put potential. The show has had a slow start with some unbelievable scenarios but this is for entertainment (right ?). I love the New Orleans location! As I have continued to watch the episodes, I do like the chemistry between the characters PRIDE, La SALLE, LORETTA, SEBASTIAN, but the BRODY character is not there. The actress who plays the part just doesn't fit. This by far is my favorite episode, ONE: I love the character that Diane Neal portrays (now she has chemistry); TWO: I love that finally they are bringing in more characters to interact that makes this show much more believable. I really enjoy the side characters: PP, LAUREL, HAMILTON, LT. ADDIE WATKINS, ORION, Dr. SAMUEL WILKINS these characters were cast perfectly. I hope that this show continues to interact all of these characters much more....there seems to be quite a bit of fun that the writers have when creating the dialogue. The ONE-LINERS are fantastic and quick....which makes this much more enjoyable to watch. I hope the show continues with much success. I love the NCIS franchise.....

Brig Break...
Verified purchase
"NCIS New Orleans" episode three opens with three young ladies in a sports car having to dodge a weaving bus that ends up crashing on the side of the road. Three obvious and dangerous prisoners climb out of the wreckage. This being a family show, the escapees take the sports car and leave the three females unmolested...

The NCIS New Orleans team is called in to work with a Navy Brig team, headed by an attractive female Lieutenant, to track down the escapees. Special Agents Pride, Brody, and LaSalle will send BOLOs in all directions and spend some time looking through surveillance footage before astutely guessing the destination of one escapee. NCIS Director Vance and Special Agent Gibbs have nice cameos as some national security issues liven up the chase and make Special Agent Pride's job a little more complicated. The chase will come to a suspenseful climax in an abandoned warehouse, where the three NCIS agents will face an armed and desperate escapee.

Three episodes in, the NCIS NOLA team is starting to come together. The dialogue sounds more natural as team members get into their intended places in the show. The show gets the full benefit of its location shooting in New Orleans and Louisiana. It's off to a good start; here's hoping they can keep it up. Recommended

It's okay

I have tried so hard to like this show. I like Scott Backula as Dwayne Pride, my issue being the accent he tries to use. Sometimes it's there and sometimes its not. I say drop it and be done with it. Zoe McLellan just needs to go away. Her character Meredith Brody is what turns me off the most, she's just a terrible actor. I feel like she was brought in for eye candy. I guess my 2 favorite character are Lucas Black as Christopher LaSelle and C.C.H. Pounder as Dr. Loretta Wade. The chemistry is still not there for me between the characters and the writing is so much weaker than NCIS and NCIS LA. I'll watch the entire season and honestly will be surprised if it gets renewed. If necessary I will update this at the end of the season.

I love it, BUT...
Verified purchase
In spite of what one reviewer said--Scott Bakula was born in Missouri, so that makes him an authentic Southerner, thus his accent is correct-- give me a break! First of all, Missouri is NOT in the south, in spite of being primarily a supporter of the Confederacy during the Civil War. And, aside from that, I've lived in Missouri most of my 65 years and I assure you that we don't sound like that. I know Scott Bakula is trying to do a real southern accent, but it's pretty much painful to hear. I wish he would just let it go and use his regular voice. Just because the show is in New Orleans doesn't mean he has to sound southern, especially when it sounds so affected.

STILL, NCIS: New Orleans gets full stars because I love the original show, have always been a fan of Scott Bakula, and I continue to hope that, with Mark Harmon as an Executive Producer, the show will iron out its little quirks over time and prove to be a quality sibling to the other two shows.

Intelligent, Fun, and A Nice Change!
Verified purchase
What a delightful change! Here's a team of professionals who treat each other with respect, affection, and equality. Instead of the usual bickering, competitive undermining, and subtle sexism of other shows, this program is a pleasure to watch. Scott Bakula is great in this role, as a team leader he's encouraging as he mentors his officers through their cases. It's really nice to see him in a role that seems tailor-made for him! The entire cast is interesting, diverse, and appealing. Do yourself a favor and enjoy this new program, filmed in a beautiful and fascinating area of the country. I look forward to seeing more!

Verified purchase
From the beginning I have enjoyed what JAG was in 1995 and now 20 years later, NCIS and its spin offs. But, this almost feels like a whole new thing. I would have to have seen Zoe McLellan continue her character as Coates - she was a legalman in Navy after all who knows where that could have lead ten years later. I can understand the need to recycle actors - even supporting actors. But, when you have Dean Stockwell play a villain racist cop, who previously was a the Secretary of the Navy on the last few seasons of JAG it's quite the turn. Especially when there are fans who want to know what's been going on with the JAG family since the series end.
All in all it is a good show, being from the south myself the accents are a bit forced, but the culture is pretty spot on. It's nice to see Scott Bakula back in a the lime light leading team. On a final note, I do see that while Gibbs was not the fan of inter-agency cooperation; Pride and his team is always using every resource from FBI, CIA, and local law enforcement to bring in the bad guys. Big turn around.

Good but the writing needs work
Verified purchase
I enjoy the show and the cast but at times, I feel that the writing is generic and predictable. I often wonder if the people at NCIS brought in their "B" team to produce this show: the 3 episode ARC leading up to the season finale feels like it was written by a bunch of novice. Watching Lucas Black's final scene in "How Much Can You Take" is truly painful and horribly predictable (no fault of the actor. It's the way the scene was written).

OK But Not For Me
Verified purchase
I just could not get into this show the way I did the original NCIS. Partially it's the different actors (Harmon vs Bakula), partially it's that the original is more focused on issues of national security. The original seems more heroic to me. The show is quirky and well done -- it just wasn't quite what I was looking for.
