This Bible contains various insert pages written by the author of The Plans I Have For You (Amy Parker). These show how God had big plans for the characters in the Bible and then apply it to kids' lives today - how God has big plans for them. For example: one of the "God's Big Plans" inserts focuses on how God had a plan for Esther and then at the end it says "Take some time to consider where God has placed you and why. Perhaps you have been chosen for such a time as this." Another example, a bit different, is for Psalm 37:4. It it entirely application focused since the verse isn't a story of a character. It discusses how learning more about God brings you true joy and how His desires become your desires.
The other insert found in this Bible is "Promise Prayers" - a verse and then a prayer written out for children to pray. For example, there is one for Proverbs 24:14, thanking God for wisdom and guidance and asking God to help "be loyal to the study of Your Word."
There are also 100 key verses highlighted in light blue.
The biggest criticism of this Bible is that there are no book introductions. It is clearly meant to be focused on application, not study. It doesn't explain or help children understand any of the context or culture.
The Plans I Have For You Holy Bible (NIV) has black text (including the words of Christ) with various blue accents (headings, chapter numbers, etc.), and is laid out in two columns. This is the NIV version of the Bible (© 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011). The text is standard size - not too large, and not too small. It does contain some basic footnotes.
There are a few regular features that make The Plans I Have For You Holy Bible (NIV) unique. Each of the features have a blue scale color scheme.
- Highlighted Scriptures (100): highlighted Scriptures throughout (listed in order of occurrence at the back of the Bible in the "Scripture Index")
- "God's Big Plans" (50): practical overviews detailing God's plan for specific individuals/groups of people, ending with a call to action (listed in order of occurrence in the "Index to God's Big Plans" at the back of the Bible)
- "Promise Prayers" (25): verse references and written prayers
With the attractive styling and the gender-neutral colors, I'd say The Plans I Have For You Holy Bible (NIV) would be great for either gender and a variety of ages - starting as early as age 6 (if they are reading) and up to around age 11.
The Plans I Have For You Holy Bible (NIV) has the basics you need, with some great extras and is a good choice for a Bible for any child in your life.

The Plans I Have for You Bible is a great gift for Easter! Easter is right around the corner and this Bible based on Jeremiah 29:11 is the perfect addition to any Easter basket. In several different places in this Bible you will find God's plans revealed. I really liked this neat little addition because it explains things as God went along carrying out each individual plan leading to crucifixion and Ascension.
This is also a great time o explain to our children that God has all of His plans for us mapped out ahead of time most of the time way before we even know about them ourselves. This Bible has many different features worth mentioning. Promise Prayers and the many highlighted verses keep the child in tune to what this Bible has to offer. A great starter Bible for ages 8-12.
This is hardcover and the print is small font or seems to be. This is a more serious Bible versus the ones that are geared toward younger ages.
