My 6-year-old daughter loves wolves, so this seemed like the perfect reader for her. The content is mostly interesting and informative, but the pages about humans hunting wolves are very disturbing to her. The pictures of wolf skins are unnecessarily graphic. We can teach young children to conserve nature and treasure wildlife without shocking and horrifying them.

Great non-fiction books for beginning readers

Purchased multible books from this series for my grandson. My grandson is in first grade and devours books. I wanted to get him started on non-fiction which requires more ctitical thinking than a simple story line. My grandson really took to these National Graphic books. He started with this one about wolves. After reading about animals he branched out into the biographies. On our last visit, he asked me if I would get him the one on the Titanic. If you are looking for non-fiction material to expand your young reader's experiences, you can beat this series.

Good number of pages. Good weight to it. Good pictures. Good lettering. My 6 year old daughter who loves wolves loves this book. Due to her reading level, which is above average, she skims through and reads only about 4 pages at a time. I think this is good; she will grow into this book/special edition magazine. I would buy again for a kid aged 5-8. Nice enough to keep in her bookshelf for a while, not recycled right after she reads it, like you would with a magazine.

These books are a great way to help children develop an interest in learning about the wider world. Also, this one is kind of funny at one point where it says that when one wolf starts howling, they all start howling. Kids like fun facts like that.

My 2 year old LOVES this entire series of Nat. Geo Readers... I have purchased about 25 different titles, "pre-readers" as well as Level 1 & 2 readers. She loves them all & will ask for certain ones. The "pre-readers" level books are extremely simple & great because she memorizes the words & can "read" it herself. We love the more advanced ones too, because there is more information to talk about. I have learned quite a few facts, myself!) What a great series. The price is reasonable & pictures are great. These are really getting her interested in nature, animals & science... I will continue to buy these as they are released, for our collection!

If your child is 5-8, then this is the intended age of this short book. Some of the reviewers here said it was for too little of kids and their older children didn't like it.

The description clearly says this is for ages 5-8, so if you're buying it for a ten or twelve year old, be prepared for a bored and disinterested kid.

Great pictures and not too much highly detailed information, our daughter has read it probably 200 times, no exaggeration. This was a distant second but a much safer option than her first birthday pick, and actual live wolf.

We have bought these National Geographic readers before and have always been happy.

purchased as a Christmas gift for my 8 year old who loves wolves.. my daughter reads 2 levels above her grade, and i feel safe in saying that she will still enjoy this book and the facts in it. I feel confident purchasing a book from the Smithsonian for her in hopes that she may learn something new about her favorite animal. The pictures are good, and the reading is fairly easy. I like the different formatting of the reading - quizzes, facts, etc. It is not just a straight read from beginning to end. I was worried this would be too easy for my daughter however upon seeing this book in person, I am confident she will be able to learn something new and enjoy the book all at the same time.

I work on a school bus and use books to help kids pass the time till we reach where we are going. I have two wolf books on my bus for kids 5 to 10 years of age. One is Wolves for kids and the other is this one National Geographic Wolves. They like this one better because the Photo's are better and there was more too it. I am slowly getting more books like this one for them and looking forward to seeing their smiles when they see the new books.
