Neferata Book 2.
With her kingdom surrounded by enemies on all sides, the Blood Queen Neferata must call upon all of her cunning and guile if she is to maintain her rulership.... Fortunately, those qualities are not in short supply....
Listen to it because: Explore the terrifying wiles of the Mortarch of Blood in a novel that pushes her to her limits as enemies gather both within and without her undying empire.
The story: Neferata is besieged. To the east, the daemon prince Graunos gathers the legions of the Blood God, seeking to tear the Mortarch from her throne. To the south, Sigmar’s storm heralds the coming of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer, intent on pressing the God-King’s claim. All the while, an ancient enemy grows, hidden within Neferata’s lands. Never has her power seemed so fragile. But, within the dominion of bones, the Mortarch of Blood controls all, and even the champions of the Dark Gods will find themselves puppets in her schemes.

Neferata is the most mustache twirling of all mustache twirling "you have played RIGHT INTO MY HANDS" villains in this book, so much so I almost stopped reading a few times. Nothing that anyone did mattered in the book, you knew the end because it was all part of her master plan that suffered minor bumps but was unstoppable. Neferata's cruelty was on much greater display this book, but it seemed gratuitous.
The dialogue was ok, it peaked whenever the main character was absent or others were being discussed. I liked the vampire agents working in the Khorne empire, in fact I wish the book had been about them.
I enjoyed Mortarch of Blood much more than this book. If there is a third book I would think long and hard before buying, and definitely would not buy at release when the eBooks are at hardback pricing.
