Intrigue

This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review electronically. One of my favorite authors…mystery…thriller…murder…family…marriage…love…neighborhoods…themes that run throughout this novel. This author is ingenious at weaving g a story that is intriguing from the beginning to the surprise ending. The characters are so lifelike that the story reads like a true story…some are likable while others are just NOT. Enjoy this one…try to discern who the guilty are… I did have trouble keeping up with streets and the names of the neighbors…so many…that being said, I just enjoy reading this author.

There's a lot going on in River Glen!

The residents of River Glen’s exclusive Villages neighborhood are not the neighbors you want to have. Mac Laughlin’s newest case involves serving as a companion/bodyguard to needy Daley Carrera who has been the victim of minor pranking and, by the way, whose husband might want to kill her. Mac quickly sees behind the facade of the Villages: the “Old Guard” who are definitely hiding something and the “New Guard” with their cliques and hot tub parties. As Mac becomes more involved, she makes dangerous enemies. Meanwhile, a local policeman is nearly killed because of his involvement in another case and Jesse Taft, Mac’s boss, tries to unravel what he suspects was a murder tied to a drug case.

There’s a lot going on here. Nancy Bush has developed strong characters, balances several plots and builds suspense. However, this is the third in the River Glen series and does not read well as a standalone. Cases and events from the earlier books spill over into this one and it is hard to understand the relationships between some of the characters. For instance, I didn’t understand why Taft had worked for Mangella. I wish I had known more of the River Glen Police Department back story. 4 stars.

Mackenzie and Taft are back. What starts out as a case of wilful damage becomes something so much more. Mackenzie isn't thrilled about her new assignment but she needs the money and she loves working with Taft. Daley & her husband Leon have been the victims of the neighbours that seem to be ganging up on them but Daley is acting strangely. Is this just a case of martial problems or is there something else going on under the surface? Mackenzie has met some of the old & new guard and she realizes that there many secrets & lies.. She is hoping that this will be over soon but the case just takes a horrible turn.
Taft has taken on another case of a missing man could it be related to the case that Mackenzie is working on. Everything seems to come back to Victor Laidlaw and the three houses that he built that caused a huge rift with everyone. So where is his son Tobias? Did he just take a trip or has something happened to him?
Will they both find the answers to solve both cases?
Throw in our old friend Mangella and we know that their are going to be problems. Can Taft keep Mackenzie safe from him?
A good read. What will happen to Mackenzie & Taft's relationship will they take it further? I really enjoy the characters.

A lot of storyline going on

The book started a little slow for me but once it picked up it got really good. There’s a lot of storylines going on. It’s easy to follow though. The neighborhood that Mac was investigating was really interesting and was kind of like a soap opera. Emma surprised everyone at the end of the book and that left me eager for book 4. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

So many scandals!

So, for some reason, this didn’t really read like a Nancy Bush book. It’s weird, because I can’t pin down exactly what was different – it’s just that as I read it, I literally kept forgetting who wrote it.

That being said, it was a fun read.

The folks at The Villages are all kind of nasty. Sooooo much trashiness in once place – they all needed better hobbies. It was fun to find out what was really going on and the various scandals definitely lead to some unexpected places.

One character was so tragic. I really did not like this person when first introduced, but I ended up so sad about their character arc.

A truly entertaining beach read!

I enjoyed this book, but you have to pay attention. There are a lot of characters with complicated relationships that were hard to keep track of and multiple story lines. This book is the 3rd in a series and I think the reader would benefit from reading the previous books. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

The Villages evokes a happy harmonious neighborhood. However Mac and Taft, two former cops, are hired as protection.
Things start happening that show the neighborhood is rancid and rotten.
The action was decent. There were many players early in which led to some minor confusion, just trying to figure out who goes where.

The Neighbors by Nancy Bush After a slow start, the pace picks up. Multiple story lines are taking place which the author deftly integrates into a narrative that is a intriguing beginning to to a surprising end. Some of the characters are personable and realistic, while others are not. Good addition to the series.
