This is the second book I have read now by Ingo Blum and I've given them both 3 stars. This wasn't a bad book, it was better than 'Where is My Little Dog?' but still just a 3 star for me. My 5-year-old niece enjoyed it more too but I doubt it's something we'd ever read together again. It's a cute and funny little book with animals who live on a farm. They organize a party for their friend (who is a duck) Carlos's birthday party. I'm really not a fan of some of the names but that's neither here nor there. I didn't like that the conflict between Carlos and Nelly was never dealt with, it was just swept under the rug sort of speak. What a missed learning opportunity that was. I didn't care for the way the bilingual is set up. Again for little kids that are not bilingual, the extra words are confusing and distracting. Also, my niece was a bit disappointed that the pictures weren’t on the same pages as the story, perhaps it was because it was kindle format..? I don't know. Anyways the illustrations are really adorable and brightly colored so the artwork really pops and my niece loved the coloring pages at the end of the book that I was able to print out for her.

Cute Story and Illustrations

I thought this was a cute book with well done as well as cute illustrations. It is a birthday theme story about animals who live on a farm having a party for an animal friend. An element I noticed is a conflict between two characters mentioned, but I never felt was really resolved. I felt this could have been more of the story and a good lesson element to incorporate to teach how to resolve conflicts with friends or something like that. I wasn't sure about the different pages of the English part of the story and the Spanish part, I would have learned more I think if they were closer such as right beside each other -- page by page, but I was reading it on the Kindle so the paper version might be different. I did enjoy seeing both version as it is a nice and interesting way to teach and learn the languages. But, not knowing Spanish I'm not sure how well it does. Overall, it is a good book and helpful with wonderful illustrations. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thought it was a cute story but it didn't seem like it was written by a native English speaker. The translation to Spanish was good. I thought the drawings were fun and adorable. It was nice that there were coloring pages at the end. I enjoyed the story but thought part of it was missing. The friends seemingly reconciled in the pictures but nothing was said in the story.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

The illustrations were great . There was no real lesson to this story which I found to be a little disappointing . There was an argument with no resolution. This could lead young readers to believe problems simply disappear or another problem takes place of the original one rather than teaching conflict resolution. The story didn’t seem to have a direction , it was a bit scattered. It was cute but not one I would purchase for my child.

My three year old thought that the duck being mad was funny but....
With the words being on a separate page, and sizable amounts of text at a time, it was hard to keep her attention. Bilingual books are also more manageable when it's just a sentence or two at a time. I also think the emphasis could have been more on the kindness/ friendship, than the Birthday being "the best day of the year. "

The animals on the farm are friends, but a fight between 2 of the animals leads to one of them leaving. The other animals miss him and want to create a surprise for his birthday. While they prepare for the surprise they discover that they need things so they go around and ask for the supplies they need. I liked this part of the story because it helps teach kids to use their words to make requests. Overall I enjoyed the story though some of the sentence or word choices do not always seem to fit. I would have liked it better if the picture and words would have shown up either side by side or on the same page, but instead on mine the picture showed up 2 pages after the description. The pictures were cute. I did receive this as an ARC, which I voluntarily reviewed.

My daughter is starting Spanish immersion school next year, so I’m building our Spanish/English library at home to prep her. Though she’ll be taught 100% in Spanish, I don’t want her English to suffer so I’m returning this book. The English portion is poorly written. I’m not fluent in Spanish, so I can’t comment on that portion of the book.

Received through Hidden Gems ARC - my grandson always looks at who the author is - when he saw Ingo Blum, he got excited and wanted to read right away. He had read several of his books and always enjoys them with the coloring pages we print out plus he’s learning Spanish and tried to find words he learned. It’s a cute farm animal birthday party story. Showed him what happens when there’s no one to direct everyone on what to do.
