John Hansen is Professor and Associate Chair for Medical Education in Neurobiology and Anatomy, and Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Hansen received his Ph.D in Anatomy from Tulane University and has held faculty appointments at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of Rochester. He previously served as the Kilian J. and Caroline F. Schmitt Chair of Neurobiology and Anatomy and for the last 14 years as Associate Dean for Admissions. This past February, John was awarded the first annual Presidential Diversity Award by the University of Rochester in recognition of his 24 years of commitment and dedicated efforts to increase the recruitment, retention and graduation of medical school candidates from diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Hansen, whose research has encompassed the study of peripheral and central dopaminergic systems, neural plasticity and neural inflammation, also is a recipient of a NIH Research Career Development Award. He has received numerous teaching awards and in 1999 was the recipient of the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award given annually by the AAMC to nationally recognized medical educators.

Professor Hansen is author of over 110 research publications, book chapters, and books. He is Co-editor of his professional journal Clinical Anatomy, the lead consulting editor of Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy (5th edition), author of Netter’s Clinical Anatomy (2nd edition), Netter’s Anatomy Flash Cards (3rd edition), the Essential Anatomy Dissector (2nd edition), Netter’s Anatomy Coloring Book, and co-author of Netter’s Atlas of Physiology and the TNM Staging Atlas for medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists.

This is a really good, convenient way to study anatomy when you're on the go. I study these flash cards on the bus, while waiting in line at the pharmacy, everywhere. I hate anatomy an am not a visual person whatsoever so I need all the help I can get. The best part about these cards is that they have the nerve supply on the back for each muscle, and related clinical correlations, so it's a great study tool.

These cards are incredibly well fleshed out, certain blocks of cards will be showing roughly the same anatomy from the same viewpoint but highlighting and discussing different parts, and these more bite-sized bits of information I find much more effective and more easily retained long term. The fact that these also come with a digital copy is fantastic and It can be very nice to have these at all times on your phone, this is much less cumbersome than trying to pick out the block of cards you need for the service you're on that day and have a big heavy hunk of flashcards in your back pocket. Our instructors recommended these strongly and I can see why, don't hesitate to pick up a set, especially if you work in Surgery, caregivers in all roles could benefit from more in-depth anatomical knowledge.

Not good enough for grad school

Incredibly detailed in some areas, but woefully deficient in others. I've spent hours writing in bony landmarks, small arteries, and various nerves.

These are anatomical paintings and therefore do not contain the level of detail I hoped for. If you have a Netter's atlas and you like it, this should be fine for you. If you own a different atlas, this will be a step down for you. I regret not getting the flashcards that match my preferred atlases, Atlas of Anatomy and Rohen's Photographic Anatomy.

These will not be sufficient for PA/Medical school. Undergrad A&P only.

Hey man, some people might say these aren't perfect since it may have a header on one of the cards that says what the muscle or part, etc. is while the picture of the one you are trying to remember is on the same side. True that's not perfect, but I've made my own flashcards all my life and some have even had the questions and answers on the same page on the same line. I'm just glad I don't have to make my own concerning all of this stuff. I'll gladly pay the money to have all of that work done for me plus it's not that much money for all this gives me. I'll just use my hand to cover up the top of the cards as I look at them for those. I'm very glad I have these. And it does come with a little metal ring where I can take the cards I'm studying with me (each card has a hole in the top corner to place them on the ring.

Confusing categorization

Wonderful drawings! Netter nails it in that regard, but most A&P classes and books are organized by system. These cards are organized by area of the body which makes it very hard to find what you're looking for when following a standard A&P class by body system. For example, if you want the cards on the skeletal system, you do not have a section for that, instead you have to sort through every card to pull out the skeletal cards from each section (head, upper extremity, lower extremity, lower extremity, etc...)

This product was an absolute lifesaver for my anatomy bell ringer exam. Really useful because it has detailed drawings and clear labels with extra information on the back of each flashcard. I love that the flashcards are segregated into systems anatomy, which is what our university syllabus follows anyway. However, you should be warned that JUST buying and relying on this product does not provide enough detail to have a sound knowledge of anatomy in first year. You would need an anatomy textbook to go in hand with this. However, this is much easier to carry around in your bag when you need to do some quick revision.

I wish it was split into body systems instead of upper limb/lower limb/thorax etc as at medical school we learn by systems so it's annoying to find all the relevent cards.

Netter or Gray's Anatomy that is the question?

Well buying these for my daughter medical student, I wasn't aware this was the debate. She's happy with them and says people may prefer one over the other, but she didn't have a preference. Although I later noticed Gray's were in her wish list. She insists they're fine and doesn't need to exchange. They're an aid to learning anatomy, you're going to need a hefty book too!

I thought the flashcards seem fairly thin, but there's a lot there. I guess the box would get bulkier and heavier the better quality the flashcards, so not as aesthetically pleasing. They look like they could take a splash of some sort of liquid and a wipe. They come with a ring holder to study a portion at a time when out and about. I'm not sure how well they would fare. But my daughter says they come with an app so she'd just use that when out anyway.

The cards are great but my only concern is that the box the cards come into is damaged and it might get worse since it's the bottom bit that looks like it's been dropped/looks somewhat wet. Some of the cards inside are torn which I have no idea how that could have happened since I ordered a new package.
I'm not sure if the package can be replaced since I don't wish to send my cards back and wait even longer for them to arrive again.
